  • Hey Bob....

Besides the guys we already know about (Cherry, Petrick, and Gallagher), are there any other pitchers floating around the farm system who are capable of contributing in a pinch?

    (I am not Bob, but...)

There are a few that come to mind.
    • Cory Bailey (35 year old) has looked great in Iowa this year.
    • Paul Schappert was in AA, now in AAA has looked decent.
    • Carmen Pignatiello climbed the minor league ladder as well and has looked nice in the promotion.
    • Another decent option would be Mark Holliman. Mark started off this year smokin hot. He is a starter for the Smokies, so he could be long relief
    .

Yeah, I forgot about Holliman. Is Bailey a 35yo career minor leaguer?

No, Bailey played in the bigs with 4 teams between 1993-2002

Holliman is definately someone who could get a September callup. But a name to lose in the shuffle of viable arms is Randy Wells. He started the season in Iowa's rotation and struggled, but since moving the the pen fulltime he's been spectacular. He's done well as a longman reliever.

By the way, I'm working a Petrick Scouting Report, it's nearly done so look for it soon on Cubshub.com

Gotcha. I didn't follow baseball much at all through the '90s. Middle school and high school...my interests were elsewhere....

Another journeyman to keep an eye on is submariner Brett Prinz, he hasn't pitched much in the past few years but did get a cup of coffee with the White Sox this year in early June.
