  • What are you looking forward to this year?

For me, the things I look forward to the most at the beginning of the season are the big question marks--the most unpredictable elements. DLee is my favorite current player, but not a guy that makes the promise of a new season exciting for me. No, what I'm excited to see is whether Pie can take off with the chance he'll likely be given (could be a very short leash, depending on the final roster)? Just how good is Soto really? Is Marmol really this dominating? Can Wood (my second favorite Cub) stay healthy while unleashing most of his nasty stuff in his first full year as a reliever? Finally, if there's anything baseball teaches us every year, it's that there's always big surprises. Who will be this year's Marmol? Will it be a guy under most people's radar--Fuld? If he's still around, will Gallagher emerge as a solid 4th starter? Can Dempster be a productive back-of-the-rotation guy?

Funny thing about Fukudome for me. I'm not that excited to see him. I think he'll be a fine player. I really doubt he'll be a complete flop--I just can't imagine that his OBP won't translate. I also see the chances that he'll be a premier player as very small. While he won't be as predictable as DLee or ARam, I think he'll be more predictable than Pie or Soto.

I'm not entirely psyched about Fukudome myself. I'm sure he'll do fine. And there's no end to the great jokes we can make using his name. But it seems to me that most Japanese players are over-hyped. Ichiro is the only player I can think of that lived up to the hype. I do hope Fukudome falls into the Ichiro pile rather than the Dice-K pile.
Your luck has expired. Please purchase new luck.

Very cool. Let's hope we have a season for all to enjoy.

I look forward to breaking the curse But Im also looking forward to how the team works. I argue with myself a lot this offseason about how they're gonna do. There'll be a moment where I feel like 4th place and sub-.500 are realistic, and then there are times I feel like 90 wins and a charge to the World Series are realistic. Im excited to see how the starting rotation does, if Lilly can keep his success up, if Lieber will have one last career year before he is done. I want to see how the Cubs (and quite frankly the fans) react to a new closer...if Wood can continue to be an aspiring story that we'll one day tell our kids about. I want to see if my assumptiont that higher power numbers from last year will translate into more wins, if Zambrano can keep his cool for the year, if Murton finds a way into the starting lineup, if Lou finally realizes Cotts sucks, to see how fans react to0 that dreaded day in October that marks the 100 year anny of our last series win...and lots more...iot will be a good year, not as good as last year (unless we are wearing rings at the end), but a good year nonetheless. Im ready for Opening Day, I got my ticket and Id stand out in line to get in right now if it wernt for the fact Id miss my bed and warmth!

Just a note to all the active members of BBF, I consider all of you the smartest baseball people I have ever communicated with and love everyday I am on here. Thank you all!

Well said Cubsfan97. I'm chompin at the bits waiting for the season to start. Though I won't be as fortunate to see the Cubs in Wrigley unless I find an opportunity to go to Chicago this year, I'm going to try to see them at Shea when they come to town in September. Will be the last time Cubs play at Shea.
