  • Marquis?

sounds like he has irritated lou to no end today with his comments on his role with the team. basically saying they should trade him if he doesnt make the rotation. Lou sounded pissed and said "He can go"

I just read the story on MLB.com.. I wish I heard the Q&A... because sometimes these stories are slanted to make it sound worst than it actually is...

I hate that there is drama in the clubhouse.. but might as well get it out of the way before the men head north and start playin in the northside...

Instead of crying to the press, he needs to get out there and prove he deserves a spot in the rotation.

True, but I'll bet he's better at the former.

Yeah it's a little disappointing that Marquis felt the need to make those statements. The article made it seem like Pinella was really irritated by it. I'm not sure that being in Pinella's doghouse is where Marquis wants to start ST when he is competing for a rotation spot then again maybe he's already angling for his ticket out of town.

You're probably right. I've never understood why guys want to say things like that to the press when they haven't really proven they have any worth to the team. I suppose frustration makes everybody do questionable things.

I need to go back and pull my quality starts posts. I think Marquis had 10 in 33 starts, whereas Hill and Z both had 15 or 16 and Lilly had 18. I projected the other five starters out to the same number of starts, and if I recall correctly, Marquis edged out Guzman for the number 7 spot behind Lilly, Marshall, Hill, Z, and Trachsel (I think that was the order too.... Marshall got killed in the W column with the lack of run support).

I read through the comments earlier today. I'm not accustomed to seeing that level of discord broadcast so openly on a team's official website, and the fact that they put down word for word what Marquis said leads me to think that they're ready for him to be gone.

Yeah, but remember all the nice things Zambrano said about Barrett after their little fight? Didn't he say he was like a brother or something? That's one of the things I love about baseball. It has that kind of culture where a guy comes out to the press with a cheesy smile and says he loves the guy he punched in the face yesterday.

Yep, and everything was great between Barrett and Z the day after the fight.

                      Two major differences...
#1 In this case it was only words and the "fight" was stirred by the media... spun to get a response from Lou after his team lost a game...

#2 It is between a manager and player. Lou wins this one without a player having to be dealt... Lou calls him in the office and says "Look lets be men here and move on..." and that is what they do...

I Actually Don't see this being much of a deal... the media (Baseball Tonight etc) will eat it up everytime Marquis name is mentioned...

And If he is traded away folks will look at this as being the reason, but the real reason is we have cheaper options that can provide equal if not better outings....

That's absolutely correct, and that's why it's a big deal. Murton was let off the hook in the court of public opinion for doing roughly the same thing last year (albeit with a little more tact) because nobody doubts Murton's ability or that he was a better choice than Cliff Floyd. Marquis didn't give us much to like, ergo he's taking flack for what he said. And rightfully so.

                          Sorry but I disagree...

Murton gets the break because he is a fan favorite.. and Marquis isn't (in my opinion)

I still think Marquis original quote was the main one he was wanting to drive his point across...

He is not competing against the other starters... (Meaning they are his team mates) He competes against the batters and himself while pushing himself to be better...

I am TOTALLY ok with Marquis being the #5 starter... Curious, nathan... How many quality starts did the other NL Central team's #5 starter have compared to Marquis 10.

I can not stand today's media... there is nothing to talk about so they stir the pot... They know Marquis prefers to be a starter and he started last season as a starter... so they know it is a touchy topic.. it seems almost as soon as he says what he did... the media says "ok thanks for that... now let's go see what Lou thinks about that"...

The way it was given to Lou at the time it was... was simply a ploy to have a story... Now... they have two... the initial report.... and now Lou says "sorry"

                          2 deadlines met.

Marshall had 10 in 18 starts.

Too bad Marshall can not pace himself to pitch an entire season... without running out of gas...
