I think this is a decisiont hat will decide Handrys fate with the Cubs in years to come. If he doesnt get Roberts and we have a dismal season, Hendry's head will be on the chopping block for not makign the move and possibly getting us to the WS. If he does get Roberts and we have a dismal season, he can turn around and say "What else did you want?" Hopefully he realizes it and he gets the trade done. However, there is also the possibility that the Orioles will flat out refuse to trade. I dont think that will happen if Hendry throws out the right players. The nice thing about our organization is we have a lto of young pitching, that we could afford to part with a couple of pitching prospects."I don't like to sound egotistical, but every time I stepped up to the plate with a bat in my hands, I couldn't help but feel sorry for the pitcher."
-Rogers Hornsby-
"People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."

Just a note to all the active members of BBF, I consider all of you the smartest baseball people I have ever communicated with and love everyday I am on here. Thank you all!

If anyone still gives a rat's behind, latest is that the deal is now off the table. I say halleluah! My guess is that it was the result of the O's overplaying their hand. They will learn soon enough that the Cubs offer was the best they'll get for Roberts. Hope this turns out the way things turned out when the Twins overplayed their hand, which is that they end up with a substantially worse offer. Even better, I hope the players we offered turn out great! To offset some of the pain of being a diehard Cubs fan, I've learned to also be a moderate Yankees fan.

Couldn't agree more. I like our young guys and want to keep them, and I'm happy with our team in general right now. If we have issues that come up during the season, there is always the deadline.

I was thinking about this, after the first month, the Roberts non-trade looks like we dodged a bullet on this one; right up there with our $90 mil. offer to Hampton that he almost took before the Rockies beat us out at the 11th hour (whew!)
Cedeno is playing well, Marshall is pitching well, and Gallagher (at least stat-wise), is looking great at AAA, and just about ML-Ready.
Meanwhile, Roberts is playing about as expected. But he would be taking At-bats away from who....DeRosa? No way DeRosa has 17 RBIs with Roberts on the roster. Plus we lose Cedeno's production.
If we had traded Cedeno, Marshall, Gallagher for Roberts (which I think we would have), we would be WORSE now, and even WORSE later when Gallgher was in the Majors, and Roberts hits free agency.
I didn't like the trade then, but I hate it even more now.
WHEW!

Wonder how Angelos feels about things now. He's probably too dumb to realize even now that he should have taken the offer. To offset some of the pain of being a diehard Cubs fan, I've learned to also be a moderate Yankees fan.

The only way the trade would have made any sense is if the players we would give up would be either glued to the bench or stuck in the farm, in which case, we may as well get value. Now that Cedeno looks like he'll have at least a decent chance of playing a lot, Gallagher is making additional progress and Marshall hasn't regressed, I'm even more convinced it was a bad deal.
