The Blue Jays have decided to hold onto RHRP Randy Wells, whom they drafted in the Rule V draft this winter. Wells was once a catcher in the Cubs' system before he was converted to a pitcher due to his strong arm and weak bat. Wells hits the low-mid 90's with a wicked slider. Since his conversion to pitcher at the start of the 2004 season, Wells has flown through the system and excelled at every level. He has the potential to start but is best suited off for relief duty. With the Cubs' surplus of young pitching arms, losing an arm like Wells isn't devastating especially with our bounty of right handed arms. There still is a chance that he could return to the Cubs but Toronto seems interested in keeping him as a pen arm. Wells has to remain in the bigs for the entire season or sent back to his original team. Even if Wells can't stick in the show, odds are the two clubs will work out a deal so Wells can stay.
The Blue Jays also added another ex-Cub in Buck Coats to their 25 man roster.
