  • Wood to have arthroscopic knee surgery

Arthroscopic procedure precautionary; brief setback expected

PEORIA, Ariz. -- Chicago Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood, who is already rehabbing from shoulder surgery, will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Tuesday to repair a medial meniscus tear.
"They're not fixing anything, they're taking a piece out," Wood said Friday. "We're not in danger here."

The problem is so minor that it's not stopping Wood, 28, from continuing his bullpen sessions. He threw 25-30 pitches on Friday, his third time off a mound this spring, and will have a similar bullpen session on Monday before flying to Los Angeles for the operation. Dr. Lewis Yokum will perform the surgery.

Great omen. What's next? This is very minor but we all know this is the story of our completely overrated bum, Kerry Wood. The guy cashes huge checks for rehabbing. What a joke!

      Wow, don't hold back.

Look we all know Kerry Wood has problems, but wouldn't you rather see him do this now instead of waiting and tweaking it later in the year and being out when it counts? I think this is the best thing for the team and management must agree or they wouldn't have pushed him to get it done.

Of course it is the right move but my point is that Wood is worthless to us. I don't see Kerry being healthy for more than a handful of games this year. How can people still have faith in him?

this will put him back 1, maybe 2 weeks max, meaning him and wade miller will come back at the exact same time...he'll throw mon-the day before the surgery-then start throwing 3 days after, long toss a week after(which is where he is now)...it's better him miss 2 weeks now than coming back in early may, then getting hurt in june and have the knee be more serious where he would miss the rest of the season, we have more than enough starters to find a good combo of 4-5...besides-it's his contract year, whenever he does come back he'll be ace-like again:-p

My point exactly - Thank you Redwhitenblue.

It gets tiresome listening to people speculate about Wood and Prior, why don't we focus on the fact that this year the Cubs have addressed thier weaknesses much better than last year and going into the season things don't look quite as bleak as last year. Yes there are question marks, but there are always question marks with every team. Remember, last years team contended for much of the year for the wild card.

Kerry Wood ace-like? Too funny. If he is ever healthy, he still would be third string to Zambrano (a legitamite ace) and Prior. Read my post again. I said this was a minor thing but it is just the beginning of injuries to come for Woody, once again. Those awful mechanics not only keep him from throwing with any kind of command but will continue to keep him on the shelf and on my nerves.
