  • It's a sentimental thing to see the Cubs lose like the Cubs of old.

    • Umm... wow.

That's about all I can say really. Anybody notice Brewers pitching getting all the outside pitches to be strikes and none of Cubs pitchers getting the same call in this series???

Pie has been getting bad calls in this whole series as well. Same with Soto in this game.

Actually, I think they were about the same because I lettered in all sports, and I was a two-time state decathlon champion.

My sophomore year I placed 2nd, and my junior and senior year - I got smart and piled up enough points between myself and second place where I didn't have to run the mile.

      • Bad calls are a fact of life. I figure it all evens out at the end of the season. New rule: If Kerry Wood hits the first batter he faces, he's out of the game. Especially if it's a Brewer.

        • Now we go into St. Louis with the Cards in first place. How is that even possible? Look at that team. I hate the ******* Cards they are always hanging around hanging around, even with a mediocre roster, it is really annoying.

Yeah I know bad calls are part of it. This series was the first time where it seems like Brewers got all the calls and Cubs got none. To the point where it seems weird. I mean when Pie was up to bat today... Len was in the middle of something and when the first strike was call that was pretty low, there was like a 10 seconds pause from Len and Bob... You know they gotta be cussing and whatnot up there about that call.

              • I listened on the radio. There was a hit batter, by Wood, who then gave up two well hit balls, one of which Soriano should have had. At least thats what they said on radio. Luckily on the 2nd double the Brewer rounding 3rd made a mistake and went home, with one out, and was thrown out. Next up was Fielder who grounded out for the 3'rd out.

OK, I said. Its not a 2 run game but a 1 run game. The Cubs got the LOH on base with a walk and then, no doubt, everyone swung for the fences. Soto struck out and Pie hit into a double play. Before you know it the Cubs lost after blowing a 2 run lead.

We needed this game too, to win the series. Oh well, its a long season. But this is the kind of Loss that drives Lou nuts. To play so well and lose due to bad fundamentals.

You get the LOH on 1st, bottom of 9th and down 1 run, and the next guy up has to bunt him over.

I was waiting for the inevitable catcher's-gear-explosion .... I couldn't tell from the TV angle, but I'm thinking Prince might have pulled up a bit. If Prince meant it, I don't think Soto would have woken up by now.

With the way Soto has been batting, and with the way Pie and Fontenot have been batting, not bunting in that situation makes sense.

That was a borderline shoulda with the ball into left field. He has made that play before, but he's also missed it before too, as has every other left fielder. Of all the things Soriano has done to disappoint me this year, that wasn't one of them.

                      • Also, what did everyone think of Mark Cuban at the Cubs game like a few days ago? Kinda interesting since he sat in like the Tribune seats and with the ownership for sale...

It'll be nice since he'll spend money (but need to spend it wisely) to make the team competitive. I just don't know about him being active and being at games and involves with everything. haha I bet he would get ejected more often than Lou in a season. That would be funny.

                        • Good God, how did Prince Fielder NOT kill Soto today?!?!?! That was amazing by Soto...I had a good laugh at the story Bob had about Kin Griffey coliding into him, I also like his comment about '83 Giants being a "minor league" team lol.

Just a note to all the active members of BBF, I consider all of you the smartest baseball people I have ever communicated with and love everyday I am on here. Thank you all!

I think a lot of us would love Cuban to buy the club, but I don't think the other owner's would allow it, due to his famous personality. I doubt Cuban will be the owner, unfortunately.

Yes hes been hot but the chances of a walk off HR is low and a #7 or #8 hitter has to be able to bunt late in the game. A good bunt is almost a sure thing in getting the runner to 2nd and you take the double play ball out of the equation. The lousy bunting of the WS drove me nuts last year. Most of all the last 3 guys in the order.

Hindsight is 20/20 but with the LOH drawing a walk, and the bottom of the order coming up with no outs, you have to bunt him over. Use pinch runners if you have to and a pinch hitter when #8 and/or #9 comes up. A good bunt by Soto would have given two Cubs two chances to drive in the tieing run.

I believe Soto is going to be a big asset but right now hes a rookie and they should have had him bunt. When I heard Soto was swinging away I told my son, "thats a mistake". You just have to play the averages in baseball and this was a big game and a tough loss.
