  • On top of that, if they somehow do the impossible and make the world series, then they're going to be playing 4 of 7 games on the road. If they can't win on the road then they're really in trouble.

    • That's now the 11th loss out of the last 15 road games...

      P.S. Don't get swept today.

      • Good win today...ARG and as I type this Glaus hits a homer and the Cards are winning. **** the cardinals. **** them **** them.

        • But as I was going to say, good win today, it was nice to see Demp win one on the road, especially in that fashion (though the strike three to Backe was ).

Still don't understand why we brought Marmol in for the ninth. It's a nine run game! Isn't Marmol's problem his overuse?? Whatever, looking forward to Harden take 2.

marmol is going to be used even more it looks like in the next week or so, as it appears Woody is heading to the DL with a blister. granted, he could come off the DL, if put on, by early next week.

            • Great job by Dempster today. I'm not too much against that strike call on Backe since he should've struck out on the pitch before (I've seen guys get called out on check swings that were much less than that before).

Either way, it was a huge win, glad to see them going strong throughout the game too, not just one or two innings.

Marmol and Howry need to be rested for the run not blowout ballgames especially if Kerry hits the DL with his blister (which could be a cover to rest his arm). The cubs needs other arms in the pen to step up like Gaudin, Hart and Wuertz.
What a Batted Ball is Worth (in terms of a run):
                Line Drive: .356
                HBP: .342
                Non-Intentional Walk: .315
                Intentional Walk: .176
                Outfield Fly: .035
                Groundball: -.101
                Bunts: -.103
                Infield Fly: -.243
                Strikeout: -.287

                • Well, thankfully the Cards and Brewers are playing each other this series. Hopefully we will put some distance on at least one of them.

                  • Why can't they give Harden some run support? I know they're going against Randy Johnson, but seriously, this is Randy Johnson well into his 40's, not the same Randy Johnson who could mow guys down at will. Cubs should have at least 1 run by this point.

Randy Johnson ALWAYS pitch great against the Cubs... It's one of those things where the pitcher has that team's numbers and seems to lock in every single time... also Chris Young been covering A LOT of ground tonight, some of those fly balls aren't dropping...

Actually, I think they were about the same because I lettered in all sports, and I was a two-time state decathlon champion.

My sophomore year I placed 2nd, and my junior and senior year - I got smart and piled up enough points between myself and second place where I didn't have to run the mile.

                      • You know, I've been a Cubs fan since I was 3 years old but and I love them but I've gotta say they've been pissing me off lately. Just two weeks ago I'm sitting here planning on buying world series tickets and now i'm not so convinced we're going to the playoffs with a freaking 21-29 road record, i mean come on Harden goes 7 IP gives up 1 hit and looses. Not only that but he was pulled for Daryle Ward who's only in the majors by the grace of God and he grounds into a double play. If we want to even start worrying about how we'll do in the playoffs we've got to start winning on the road because we've got a lot more road games in the second half.

Oh, and Derrek, freaking aim up there's no outs and 2 on if you hit a flyout to centerfield you would get a good result, you could see on the replay he slashed at it like the bat was a sword he went straight down. We need to use this Cards-Brewers series to gain ground not lose it. Alright, I'm done ranting for now.

First off, Harden was coming out regardless, they are keeping a close eye on how much he pitches. They want to handle him very carefully. And secondly, I'm a little taken a back by all the abuse towards Ward (nice to see him hit a homer yesterday). He has had some big hits for us in his short Cubs career, he is a veteran, and he has an amazing pinch hitting career. Sure, he is past his prime, but I'm glad we have him.

                          • a little offense would be nice. especially from Derrek Lee. He is a buzzkill right now. Probably the biggest rally killer on the offense right now. The DP's have GOTTA stop.

                            • Alright, my bad you've got a point, I was a little harsh and I'm sure he hits Major League pitching better than I do, it's just pissing me off that we're fixing to get swept by Arizona. Well, Lilly's pitching tonight I've got confidence in Ted and Soriano's coming back tonight so we'll see how things play out.

My opinion on Ward has shifted a tad. I was very glad we had him last year. This year I feel a little more confident in the rest of our bench (and the team in general). I'm not unhappy we have him by any means, but I don't think we need him as badly.
