  • Mets 5 Cubs 1 (grand slam by Delgado)...and C. Zambrano has now qualified as the most certifiable pitcher since Denny McLain. If he is gonna blow up and pitch like this in the playoffs, we don't need him.

I'll tell you what, gimme Harden, Dempster, and Lilly over that nutcase in the playoffs. At least they don't blow their top when they walk guys...maybe because they DON'T walk anyone...

Only in Cubdom could we be worried with the best record in the N.L.

    • Carlos got squeezed by the umpire and it was the umpires strike zone that got the bases loaded, allowed a run in and then gave up the homer. The umpires strike zone the last few games have been atrocious. There isn't too many pitchers in the world that wouldn't lose their cool with the umpires strike zone in this game. You know the ump is doing a bad job when everybody is barking at him. The hitters are, the pitchers are, the managers are.

We're worried? More like you're worried. Calm down. You strike me as the type of guy who would complain about something even if the Cubs were up 20-0 in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs and nobody on. Like Ubiquitous said, the umpire's strike zone has been pathetic all night for both teams. Greg Maddux would probably have yelled at the ump by now.

        • That IBB to load the bases was a mistake. The ump has been horrible tonight with his strikezone and loading the bases with 2 outs gives Jeff no room for error. Besides they had 2 outs let Jeff go after him.

Finally that first pitch was a strike which just goes to show you why Lou shouldn't have called for a IBB.

          • man... why is Howry in the 9th? just curious here...

Also that IBB to load the bases was pretty stupid IMO... It's not like Chavez has a hot bat or anything. Some of these decisions Lou has made got me wondering...

Why isn't Pie in at CF? in case of they try for a sac fly because he got a lot stronger arm than Johnson.

Actually, I think they were about the same because I lettered in all sports, and I was a two-time state decathlon champion.

My sophomore year I placed 2nd, and my junior and senior year - I got smart and piled up enough points between myself and second place where I didn't have to run the mile.

            • The games are pointless so Lou is using them to make decision on the playoff roster.

That's true, but you can't let them win or take it easy. It's not totally pointless. We don't want to give Mets or Brewers momentum going into the playoffs and having to face them.

EDIT: It works out and Howry got out of a great jam there. I know we're in and Lou is looking to see who get in the playoffs, but I don't want us to go into the playoffs with like a losing streak/slumping and the other teams are on a roll.

                • On a roll or not really doesn't matter.

Teams have won it all after a slump and teams have failed miserably after rolling into the playoffs. What matters is being the better team and being healthy.

                  • How about that? getting 3 runs with 2 outs.. It's nice to see that.

I'm also very surprised that Fukudome still hasn't figured out his swing yet. What is wrong with him? Is it that it's a longer and more demanding season than Japan? (considering better quality league/schedule/travel/etc.) Is it mental on his part? Or is this what he really gonna be for the next 4 years? I hope he gets things worked out for next season and improves.

                    • The league has adjusted to him and he needs to adjust back. So far he hasn't done that. He needs to work on it during the off-season. He needs to soften his bail out approach at the plate.

Yeah it's weird. It's like he's trying to be like Ichiro on that bail out where he needs to stay in his stance more and drive that ball.

Great win there. Split the series no matter what and with Harden/Martinez pitching tomorrow. It's going to be a battle of 5 innings hahaha.

Ubi, who do you want to win the WC? I hope Mets and Brewers have to win on the last day so CC and Johan have to pitch that last day.

                        • A lot of the Japanese hitters have that approach though it does kind of look like Fukudome has the most exaggerated bail out.

AS far as who I want to play, well, that is a tough one. Originally I didn't want the Brewers but the Brewers pitching staff is a disaster right now. Sheets is hurt, CC is gassed and will be pitching on short rest the rest of the season. But the Mets bullpen is a disaster and really only have Santana for the Cubs to worry about. If the Brewers win the Cubs play LA and LA with Manny is a different team and they have a better pitching staff.

In the end I kind of want the Mets but a big part of me would love to have no NY teams in the playoffs. I think the Cubs should roll over the Mets in the first round and will probably have to play the Phillies in the NLCS.

                          • I am a Mets fan. If I take back all of the bad things I have said about the Cubs since 1969, will you please beat the Brewers???? I even will take back all of the nasty things I have said about Wrigley Field and the Bleacher Bums, and how mistaken I was when I went to Wrigley and said I didn't like it. I was just kidding back then. Cub fans must be in their glory; the Mets need your help, and the Chisox are choking big time.

I'm sorry we let that black cat out in front of Leo. We're sorry we clinched the 1973 Division at Wrigley in front of all those rabid Cubs fans , yes all 1,913 of you that turned out for the occasion. Or that we ended the 1969 season at Wrigley in front of that packed house of 9,981.

Can you let bygones be bygones and help us out??????

Thank you to the Cubs. Now if we choke (again ) it is our own fault.

And I am a huge supporter of Santo getting into the HOF. If he does not get in this time, something is wrong. So even if he still dislikes the Mets, he still is a Hall of famer.

Good luck in the playoffs. And thanks again.
