  • Soto Named Rookie of the Month for April

Well deserved I would say, he has gone way beyond my expectations. I just want a catcher who can play defense and not be helpless at the plate, we haven't had that combination since....maybe that 1 season of Rick Wilkins?

With Fuku finishing second, maybe the Cubs can pull a 1-2 for Rookie of the Year voting! And hopefully they would have better careers than the LAST time we pulled that off!

I did not know this until I read my Trib this morning....

A Cub player has been named Rookie of the Month for April only once before.

      Who was it?

HINT: Let's hope Soto's career has a better trajectory than this answer.

Just a note to all the active members of BBF, I consider all of you the smartest baseball people I have ever communicated with and love everyday I am on here. Thank you all!

Not many guesses, so the answer....

HEE SEOP CHOI, April of '03

Must have been a slow month/year for Rookies. Obviously that one didn't pan out

Choi just wasn't the same after he got knocked out in that collision with Kerry Wood.

I would say it did pan out. He played a little while, and then we cashed him in for D Lee before Choi started to not pan out...good move there :applaud:

True, Hendry has a terrific track records of trading over-hyped and ultimately failed prospects in return for real players:

                Bobby Hill for A-Ram
                Choi for Lee
                F. Beltran and B. Harris for Garciaparra (and Murton; granted Nomar didn't work out, but it was absolutely the right move at that time)

Makes you think we should trade Pie........

Although he did turn down a Prior for Bedard and Tejada deal, which is horrible in retrospect, but at the time I was very glad he passed on that.
