  • Former Cub, Geremi Gonzalez, killed by lightning

Former Cubs farmhand, Jeremi Gonzalez was struck by lightning and killed in Venezuela. The 33 year old Gonzalez pitched for five major league teams from 1997 to 2006. The right-hander appeared in 131 games with 83 starts, compiling a 30-35 record.

Personally, I'll never forget his shutout against the Cardinals, he looked like he had a quality future in the fold before him but arm troubles set in and the rest is history.

Not more than a week before this happened, I had been thinking about him and wondering what happened to him. He gave us some good memories. RIP buddy.
