Will Zambrano get ejected in the 5th inning this year?
Will Neifi Perez come off the bench as a late inning defensive replacement in the 4th inning?
Will Michael Barrett start a fight with someone?
    Will Walker clog the bases?
Will Dempster scare the shite out of us in the 9th inning?
    Will Ohman be Will Ohman?

Dusty's latest: "Water seeks its own level..."
I bet he got that off of a fortune cookie.

well, this has gotta be one of the ugliest games i heard in a long long time. 16-7 victory. not many 1-2-3 innings here. about eighteen billion walks, about 11,000 bunt singles, a derrek lee error, long sacrafice flies (on both sides). atrocious fielding (esp. by adam dunn).

and zambrano didnt make it out of the 5th. again. zero control. (to be fair, the umpire had a crappy zone).

still, dusty did a good job managing and used the double switch effectively. All in all, a thrilling 16-7 victory. Ohman, gets one out and the victory.

          Cubs Win!

I thought they played (offensively) very good. I think Eyre, Howry, and Dempster played good. I was surprised to see Zambrano play so poorly. He will pitch better in his next start. As for the offensive side of the game, both sides played great but the Cubs just outhit the Reds. Juan Pierre was very impressive today with 3 runs. I'm not concerned with DLee's error. I don't think he will let that happen again.
          Great game for the cubbies!

1 down and 161 to go!
          Can you say S O R I A N O !!!

crappy zone is a kind judgment to the umpire today, there was no zone, at one point in the 2nd inning Z just started throwing fastballs down the middle bc he couldn't get a call anywhere else, and the zone really didn't open up later in the game either

i can honestly say, after a 3 hour and 45 minute game, this was one of the worst umpired strike zones i've ever seen in my life...when eyre came in after his final K Z went up to him and asked him "how many did you have right over the plate not call?" and they both just smiled at each other

let's hope we never have this guy behind the plate again

there were two guys I thought about while watching todays game...

              Guy #1:
the person who said Murton can't hit....

              Guy #2:
the person who said, "I wish the Cubs would go after Adam Dunn"

All in All... Great outcome, I just wish Carlos could have got the win.

What an opener for the Cubbies. I have some serious man-love for Matt Murton, who I think should be hitting fifth. He is going to be a very good player for a long time. He has flat-out raked at every level he's ever been at, and I believe that it will be he, not the guy who was the star at the time, who will be remembered from the NOMAR deal.

Solid work by the pen (other than all the walks) and nice work by Juan Pierre in his Cub debut!

Ah yes, the inspiration for my user title. I think I'll leave it up there for a while.

That was a great game. I can't wait to see Murton blast 39 more of those things this year. What a great way for Pierre to start off his Cub career.

If Murton can hit above .280 and take 20-25 yard than it will be a great year for the Ginger Child. As for Pierre, he did what he does best, slap the ball and run. He had a few encounters in the centerfield that were ghastly, but not as bad as Dunn in Left and he proved on several occasions that he has a girl's arm.
What a Batted Ball is Worth (in terms of a run):
                          Line Drive: .356
                          HBP: .342
                          Non-Intentional Walk: .315
                          Intentional Walk: .176
                          Outfield Fly: .035
                          Groundball: -.101
                          Bunts: -.103
                          Infield Fly: -.243
                          Strikeout: -.287
