      • Great catch by Pierre! It was awesome. I know hes going through a tough time offensively but he is a great center fielder and we know that he can get on the bases. Everyone has slumps from time to time. It's just unfortunate that nearly everyone is in a slump now.

Wow, here's a shocker, Pierre is NOT in the leadoff spot tonight, instead it's Cedeno. And John Mabry is getting the start at first base with Walker at 2B.

          • well, it worked in the first inning as cedeno got on, stole second. it required pierre to bunt him over to 3rd, and score on a ground out.

and of course, Z gave it right back in the bottom half.

how come Z never covers the bag properly?

            • mabry has saved zambrano so far tonight. making the bang bang throw to the plate and then snagging that line drive with the bases loaded.

Z has walked FIVE!?! so far.

                smart walks though...

And it is not as much as a control issue, which the box scores might suggest... he is paintin the corners, and IMO he might have 2 more K's if his name was Greg Maddux.

oh i agree, two of the walks were smart, but he's also been out of the zone quite a bit too, and leading off the inning with a walk is never a good thing.

                  • FINALLY!!!!!! CUBS WIN!

                    And can anyone say Jacque Jones enfuego?!! In his last 13 games, he's 16 for 40 with 3 runs, 3 2B, 3 hrs, 8 rbi, 2 bb, 8 k, .400/.429/.700/1.129

For the season, he's now up to .269/.310/.505/.815. A huge jump from where he was two weeks ago. After his first 11 games with the club, Jones was hitting .194/.250/.306/.556.

                    • the switch up of cedeno and pierre was okay(cedeno still made outs 3 other times with RBI chances outta that hole) but no matter what, mabry shouldn't be our 5 hitter...that made no sense to me...either move murton and jones up or switch jones and mabry...mabry can't hit a fastball down broadway

Jones should be hitting in the 5th spot vs. Righties, he's hitting them at a .320 clip this season. It's just too bad his failures vs. Lefties had caused his drop to the 7th hole.

                        • I think it's about time to move Jones into the 3 spot. This is my lineup.

                          Cedeno
                          Pierre
                          Jones
                          Ramirez
                          Walker
                          Barrett
                          Murton
                          Mabry
                          and whoever the pitcher is

                            • Boy, that 1st inning was rough on him, I think the Giants knew to go after him on the first pitch because every hitter came up and did that. I saw that John Mabry was the Cubbies 1st baseman today and he wears #17. Mark Grace's number hasn't been retired yet? Should his number be retired?

it wont be retired anytime soon, not with Andy McPhail still running the team. they hate each other going back to the time when they were moving him out the door for hee soip choi.

and no, I dont think it should be retired, as thats been only given to the hall of famers plus ron (who everyone knows belongs in). Sandberg didnt get his number retired until after the HOF ceremony.
