I really wish I could have watched the game today. It sounded like a very good game. Let's see, how will I end up missing tomorrow's game?

Monday: I had a band concert.
Wednesday: It started too early and wasn't even on TV I got.
Today: I get home hoping to catch the last couple innings and I find out that our cable is out.

      I think there's a conspiracy here.

Well, you have got to admit that Jeff Suppan isn't exactly a good pitcher, but I know where Greg Maddux is going in the next couple of years - where he belongs: the National Baseball Hall of Fame. I hope he has a good year this year and pitches very well.

Okay, enough bragging about Maddux. Now you may have drawn first blood in the rivalry, but I'm not going to guarantee that you'll take the series from us this year. Suppan had a bad day, but Chris Carpenter will win against you guys.

            *ahem*

Zambrano is pitching today for the Cubs. Zambrano absolutely dominated you guys last year. He was 3-0 with a 1.10 ERA in 4 games. I wouldn't be calling this game a win before it's even started.

oh but suppan plays on the cards, he must be amazing-every analyst i hear was calling for larry bigbie and juan encarnacion to become all stars since they were on the cards and i've heard the cards have a top 3 rotation in baseball...a little overrated IMO

anyways-i think the defense had as much a part of the win as the cubs offense...note to cubs players, when windy-hit it to encarnacion

Cubs going for the sweep, if Marshall is successful it would mark the first time the Cubs took a 3 game home series against the Redbirds since June 5th, 6th, 7th 2001.

                        yep

A sweep here is just what we need. I don't understand why Carpenter was taken out of the game in the 7th. I'm glad they did though. He was pitching very good.

If not for the sloppy defense today, this would've been Carlos's first win and it would've been a shutout, but a win's a win.

I thought Carlos pitched well, but his emotions got the better of him after the Lee and Cedeno errors.

A lot of people say this honor validates my career, but I didn't work hard for validation. I didn't play the game right because I saw a reward at the end of the tunnel. I played it right because that's what you're supposed to do, play it right and with respect. If this validates anything, it's that learning how to bunt and hit and run and turning two is more important than knowing where to find the little red light at the dug out camera. - Ryne Sandberg

about 98 pitches, that's why, it's only his second start and there isn't any reason to extend him

Z was working over 100 pitches for a lot of the end of the 6th, i don't know if it was his emotions or just natural tiring that got the best of him

I think it was more his emotions. After the errors, he started just slinging the ball down there with much less control than he had before the error and he would snap his glove on the return throws.

well if he's not hitting the zone he would get pissed...he was much better today than monday, but this wasn't good Z, he was still fairly wild during the game-but he got the cards hitters to bite at his wildness and hit some soft junk outs
