  • Former Cubs player Herman Reich dies

Herman Reich was a 31-year-old rookie for the Cubs in 1949. The Indians had originally drafted him from Portland in November of 1948, but he was selected off waivers by the Senators on April 30. He played two games for the Senators, then was sent back to the Indians on May 10. On May 18, he was selected off waivers by the Cubs from the Indians, and it is with the Cubs that he spent most of his season, playing in 108 games for them.

So, although his big league career lasted only one season, he managed to play for three different teams. Overall, in 111 total games that year he hit .279.

He passed away on October 22.
