  • Tony Womack Signed

I think this could be a good pickup for the Cubbies on a few different levels. One, he is going to bring some verteran leadership to a team who seems to lack someone in that capacity at this moment. He knows what it takes to get to the postseason and be successful. I could also see him being a sparkplug for this lineup right now. Even though he has struggled much of the last two seasons, he is a good player. It will be interesting to see how this move pans out. Cubbies had nothing to lose on this deal.

What the hell? Another [snipped] light hitting second baseman? Somebody should be fired for this if you ask me.

Womack falls under the same realm as Perez, utility player at best, nothing more. At least we didn't give Womack a guarenteed multiyear deal...
What a Batted Ball is Worth (in terms of a run):
      Line Drive: .356
      HBP: .342
      Non-Intentional Walk: .315
      Intentional Walk: .176
      Outfield Fly: .035
      Groundball: -.101
      Bunts: -.103
      Infield Fly: -.243
      Strikeout: -.287

The Cubs need another guy who can't hit like the need Neifi Perez on their roster. Oh, wait, they do have Neif Perez on their roster. This is a butt ugly signing. The Cubs don't need "veteran leadership", they need people who can hit the ball.

I see no wire listings for this. Can anyone confirm the signing?

Womack is at least fast enough to lay down a bunt and can play a good amount of positions (OF, SS, 2B). He's much better than Neifi.
The Q: Can the Cubs hold a 6-5 lead with 2 outs and nobody on in the 9th?

              The A: No

              ***********My Rant on Bud Selig***********
Selig is like a stray pigeon. Pigeons are too self-absorbed to care about anyone else. They poo on people they don't like; they poo on people they don't even know. The only real difference between Selig and a pigeon is that Selig intends to bury our heritage, our traditions, and our culture,

He is better than Neifi, but Tony Womack is not much better than anyone.

Great, Tony can lay down a bunt in the 9th inning with 2 outs just like Neifi.:grouchy

                      HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

                      that's funny.

FWIW, Woe-Mack makes Neifi look like Raul Ibanez.

Good. Send Jerry Hairston Jr to the minors or release him.

pretty much its 6 of one half dozen of another.

hairston is certainly doing his best to play himself out of any shot of getting regular time.
