Ernie embodied baseball and human decency for so many people in Chicago and beyond.
I suspect that he would have wanted us to smile while recalling the good memories rather than cry at his passing, but it is hard to not be sad.

A great player and a real gentleman. Class act all the way. I'm old enough to have caught the end of his career but as a Yanks fan I never saw him play, not even on tv. But I've heard enough about him to know that a lot of today's players could learn something from him.

Tears fell for an hour. Then again this morning. Ought to be a double header played every year in his honor.
