Congratulations To All Cub Fans Everywhere!

MLB's best team in 2016 ends epic World Series drought

I am an avid Red Sox fan. So I felt your pain! I wanted the Cubs to win in the worst way. I couldn't be more happier for the fans who finally got to see their team win in their life.
When the Red Sox finally won in 2004, I too thought of both my Grandfather and Father who never saw their team win a championship in their lifetime.

Here are three interesting items from Game 7

• The 2016 championship belt represents the third for the franchise, after back-to-back titles in 1907 and '08. In both of those seasons, the Cubs had the most wins in the Majors -- a reality that also was in play for 2016. On that note, the Cubs (with 103 victories) became just the fifth team in the Wild Card era to win the World Series after generating the most victories during the regular season. The other clubs to do this: the 1998 Yankees, the 2007 Red Sox, the '09 Yankees and the '13 Red Sox.

• This contest marked the fifth World Series "Game 7" to reach into extra innings, and it was the first one to end with the visiting team coming out on top. In 1912, the Red Sox defeated the Giants in 10 innings. (This was the eighth game of the series, as Game 2 was called after 11 innings. But this series was in a best-of-seven format, so we're including it here); In '24, the Senators beat the Giants in 12 innings; In '91, the Twins topped the Braves in 10 innings; In 1997, the Marlins upended the Indians in 11 innings.

• Cubs backup backstop David Ross, at 39 years and 228 days old, homered in his first at-bat after entering the game on defense in the fifth inning, and he also drew a walk in a perfect night at the plate. Ross became the oldest catcher to hit a World Series home run, surpassing the previous mark held by Bill Dickey from Game 5 in 1943 (36 years and 127 days old). Ross was also the oldest player to homer in a World Series Game 7, surpassing Willie Stargell (39 years and 225 days old) from 1979.

What an awesome time to take part of the history. The march to Grant park through the city was almost comparable to a political march or pilgrimage.

After all of it. To switch to another train and went to visit my grandmother, who died at 98 years old in 2013 with me and my wife at her bedside. She had suffered from Alzhemiers for 10 years and before the grave end, would still say "play ball" and briefly speak of her beloved Cubs and Wrigley Field. I had worn my 1929 Cubs clinch the pennant shirt (the year my grandma started going to the games at Wrigley at the age of 13) in her honor. After getting married in 1939, she would listen to the games on the radio and then in the middle 1950s on B&W tv.

Fridays celebration completes why my grandmother loved so much baseball and our Chicago Cubs. Flying the W until March. All surreal. "Proves anything can be accomplished when humans work together as team." -Theo

I'm SO happy for you and your sweet grandmother!
I know exactly how you feel. I feel bad for our family members who never gat to see their team win. Since my father died in 2000, he's missed 4 Super Bowls, 3 World Series, 1 Stanley cup and 1 NBA Championship in 9 years!
So Landry, congratulations again to you and all Cub fans, present AND passed. My avatar will remain a waving Cubs pennant in their honor until 2017 opening day. Go CUBBIES!
