How do you not show up for one of the biggest games of the first half of the season

    • The Cubs beat the 4th place Pirates. So what? The Pirates were 6 games below .500 at the start of the game. And the Cubs were at home.

The Brewers beat the 2nd place Yankees, who were 5 games over .500, in New York. The Cubs are still 4 1/2 games back.

As for how they played...dig deep...

The Cubs made 4 errors and had a Passed Ball.

They were 2 for 13 with RISP

They left 9 men on base.

They allowed 12 base runners...11 of which the Pirates left on base.

      I'm sooooooo not impressed!

      • The Brewers played a day game in New York and lost to the Yankees 5 to 3. Going into tonight's game the Cubs had a chance to pick up a full game. They failed. All of the other teams in the NL Central...the Pirates, the Cardinals and the Reds succeeded by winning.

The box score is ugly. Only 4 hits and 2 walks for the Cubs. Two of those hits were solo Home Runs.

They left 4 on base and were 0 for 3 with RISP

        There was another Passed Ball.

Arietta pitched from behind for most of the game, hit 2 batters and gave up the first run and the go ahead 2 run HR.

Altogether Cubs pitching gave up 7 hits, 2 walks and 2 HBP.

The Pirates were 0 for 7 with RISP, left a total of 9 men on base and still outscored the Cubs.

Even with 2 HRs the Cub offense was poor. They struck out 8 times.

Still 4 1/2 games back with one more outing before the break.

        • Please be a sorry assed .500 club at the break to instill hope that the second half of the year can be a fresh start. Aireta was just terrible again on Saturday. It will be nice to see Hendricks back in the line up soon and Monty back in the bullpen.

Trade Russell before the deadline and Schwarber as well.

Most disappointing Cub for me this half is Ben Zobrist
Most appealing Cub for me is Ian Happ

          First half grades :

          Coaching C
          Management D
          Pitching C-
          Bullpen B+
          Hitting D
          Runs F
          Defense C

No team in the history of baseball who won the WS prior year and hit the all Star break the next year less than .500 made the playoffs

                • LOL

                  U stink Cubs

                  • 10 to 0

                    • 82 Runs allowed in the first inning this year by the Cubs
Last year they allowed 70 in 162 the first inning

                      • I hope they are absolutely embarrassed by that half inning but I doubt Epstein will do anything about it

                        • I'm going to be honest with everyone; I haven't watched a game since May. Mainly because we don't have TV, but I still won't go out my way to stream a game online. I watch the highlights and look at the box score. But from this point forward, I won't even be doing that much. Hopefully, it won't get to the point where I stopped following the team completely from '09 up until they fired Jim Hendry.
