  • 3 Way deal rumored

There are murmurings about a possible 3-way deal between the Reds, the Indians and Red Sox that would have Matt Clement sent to the Reds, who would then send Austin Kearns to Cleveland, who would then send Coco Crisp to Boston. Have you folks heard anything about this? And what are your opinions about how it would affect your club?

Interesting deal there. Kearns fought back from AAA last year to get back on the Reds' roster, where in AAA he started getting on a hot streak, while the Reds would get Clement, however I still wonder how he feels after he got hit in the head with that line drive...

And with Coco, the Red Sox are obviously trying to get him at any cost. Theo is a wrecking ball. (So much for resigning, Mr. Flip-flop! )

If the Reds can get a front line starter, or even someone like Clement, for Kearns, I'd take it. It took a monster tear in Triple A to save Kearn's Reds career. It remains to be seen whether or not he can overcome completely his problems last season.
That's a bold move, considering the Reds have had an interim GM in place for only a few days now.

I'm all for it, I want Coco in Boston and I don't want to lose three top prospects to get him. Sorry Clement, but at this point you are expendable.

pre-concussion this was a simple yes. post concussion, not so much. Clement's K rate dropped below 6 after the concussion. concussions affect people differently, so there is a chance that Matt Clement might not be the same guy he was pre-beaning.

a pre-concussion Clement (the thing i was pimping hard in 04) would be grand. if Boston will pay $2mil or more of the salary i'd do it.

there are also rumors floating around that says in that 3-way trade, Westbrook, rahter than Clement would be coming to Cincinnati. i would hate that deal though, as Westbrook is extremely defensively reliant.

I've heard the Coco/Clement/Kearns deal. No way in hell I do that if I'm the Tribe. Think about it, would you give up Crisp for Kearns? Noooooo Way!

As for Jake Westbrook, he'd be a great fit here in Cincinnati, as he rolls a ton of ground balls. Perfect for GABP. Once again though, if I'm Cleveland, no way I would give him up. He throws a ton of innings too.

except the Reds have the worst defense in baseball (and with Freel or Womack or Aurilia at 2B, possibly the worst defensive middle infield), Westbrook is exceedingly defense reliant and has been BABIP lucky two years running (thanks in large to Peralta/Vizquel and Belliard).

Okay, I'm going to bite on this... Why not? Is it the .240 batting average you're in love with? The ability to pick up injuries? Or the inferior speed? How could you possibly not be salivating at chance to acquire Clement, Westbrook, or Crisp by merely giving up Kearns? Am I missing something here?

As for the Westbrook defense propaganda, believe me, Peralta isn't exactly gold glove material at short. My point was, playing in GABP, I'd rather have Westbrook, as he gives you a chance, than Milton playing simulated rocket launching games.

the Reds roster for one. as well Crisp gets overrated. good defensively, but lacking in discipline and power. and for all of Kearns' issues, he was only worth about 1/2 a run less than Crisp.

Overrated? He hit .300 last year. I don't think he's a great power hitter, but I don't think he's being billed as such. I really, really like Crisp. I'm terribly saddened by his departure.
