  • David Weathers is terrible!

I would rather put any other pitcher on the mound than this guy. Nearly every single time he enters the game, something bad happens.

I wish the Reds would just go with a younger arm and get rid of this bum.

He's a slow starter, always has been. Is it so soon that you forget last year, when he was the only reliver they had that didn't pour gasoline on any fires they were supposed to put out?

That said, I'd like to see his role swapped with Burton. The guy has great stuff, and could have been the closer this year IMO. 95 mph fastball, sinker, accuracy...he's got what any closer neeeds at GAB. My prediction....if the Reds are out of it in July, Burton gets the job, right after the drop that new $40 mill contract they signed Cordero to.

Well, have you ever seen Dan Kolb pitch?

I've been saying this all along. Weathers is brutal. Last year was some sort of fluke or random convergence of cosmic forces.

          No Neck Weathers

Considering the basic overall lack of quality middle relievers in the Majors, No Neck Weathers (look at his next time he pitches) is above average. The 3 walk appearance doesnt endear him to anyone, but he has had a few solid years for the Reds now and is a much better option then most teams have, and after Coco and possibly Burton he is the Reds best middle reliever as well. He also starts slow, doesnt blow anyone away, but usually gets the job done. We have much larger problems then Weathers...

I do admit, compared to Todd Coffey at the moment, Weathers is frickin' Mariano Rivera.

And he blew another game over the weekend... good piece of hitting by Billy Hall, who is the Reds daddy, but sometimes it appears that Weaters nibbles too much, if it doesnt get the corners he is in trouble.

From 2005 - 2007 Weathers was pretty good for the Reds in about 230 IP's. Are you really going to write him off after 7 IP's this year.

That would be dumb considering we have Francisco Cordero. I wonder who would be better in long relief, Kip Wells or Bronson Arroyo.
Unlike most other team sports, in which teams usually have an equivalent number of players on the field at any given time, in baseball the hitting team is at a numerical disadvantage, with a maximum of 5 players and 2 base coaches on the field at any time, compared to the fielding team's 9 players. For this reason, leaving the dugout to join a fight is generally considered acceptable in that it results in numerical equivalence on the field, and a fairer fight.

Bronson is going to keep starting because #1 he makes too much money not to and #2 we dont have another option to plug into the rotation. The 5th spot is already a black hole and we are just counting the days (probably until Belisle gets rocked in his next start) until Homer is up.

Anyways, not writing Weathers off, but he has been rocky.... he will be serviceable as he always was im sure.
