  • Carrying Three Catchers AGAIN

The only reccuring theme in this Reds organization is having three catchers.

    From reds.com

"CINCINNATI -- The Reds on Wednesday activated catcher David Ross and put outfielder Norris Hopper on the disabled list.
Ross, the Reds' No. 1 catcher the past two seasons, had been on the DL all season with back spasms. He played in 13 Minor League games.

Paul Bako has done most of the catching this season and is hitting .321. Backup Javier Valentin has been used mainly as a pinch-hitter.

Hopper, who has inflammation in his right elbow, was put on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to Saturday."

Unlike most other team sports, in which teams usually have an equivalent number of players on the field at any given time, in baseball the hitting team is at a numerical disadvantage, with a maximum of 5 players and 2 base coaches on the field at any time, compared to the fielding team's 9 players. For this reason, leaving the dugout to join a fight is generally considered acceptable in that it results in numerical equivalence on the field, and a fairer fight.

Apparently carrying three crap catchers is better than two good ones. Remember Corky Miller? Chad Moeller? Ryan Jorgenson?

Haha, Corky Miller... blast from the past... i did see that he is with the Braves now...in the big leagues... funny stuff...dont expect the three catchers thing to last too long.... one of them will be the odd man out, would have been Bako but he basically played himself into being a keeper.

Well, it could be worse. You could be the Brewers carrying 14 pitchers.
