  • Reds Sign Broxton - Chapman Heading to Rotation

Jonathan Broxton was signed to a 3-year/$21M deal with an option for 2016. There's also a clause in the contract in case he is traded.

Aroldis Chapman's now expected to join the rotation for the start of 2013.

I don't know what to think of this. I hear he's in the bullpen and now the Reds brass are saying the decision hasn't been made yet.

"I have the ultimate respect for Whitesox fans. They were as miserable as the Cubs and Redsox fans ever were but always had the good decency to keep it to themselves. And when they finally won the World Series, they celebrated without annoying every other fan in the country."--Jim Caple, ESPN (Jan. 12, 2011)

Aroldis has publicly stated that he wants to stay in the pen and Dusty has as well. The FO is saying differently, but I think it'll come out with Chapman back in the closer's role. It ends up with the Reds paying a ton of money for a set-up man in Broxton while they already had a good one in Marshall.
