The battle for the 2nd base job should be the most interesting for the Rockies with Jayson Nix, Omar Quintanilla, Marcus Giles, Clint Barmes and they are also going to be experimenting with Jeff Baker and Ian Stewart.

For the 5th outfielder it will be between Cory Sullivan and Scott Podsednik amongst others. With Sullivan already signed to a 1 year 1mil contract and being the Rockies best defensive outfielder I think that Podsednik is just some insurance in case Holliday, Taveras, Hawpe or Spilborghs get injured in ST.

The job for the 4 and 5 spot in the pitching rotation will be Franklin Morales, Kip Wells, Josh Towers, Jason Hirsh and Taylor Buchholz.

The bullpen will need 1 lefty to replace Jeremey Affeldt that is no longer with the club and a couple of the rightys that don't make the starting rotation will join the bullpen.

Projected with some real guessing here for 2nd/ 5th OF/ 4&5 spots/ Bullpen Middlemen

      Catcher/ Yorvit Torrealba/ Chris Ianetta
      1st base/ Todd Helton
      2nd base Jayson Nix
      3rd base/ Garrett Atkins
      SS/ Troy Tulowitzki
      LF/ Matt Holliday
      CF/ Willy Taveras
      RF/ Brad Hawpe

      1/ Aaron Cook
      2/ Jeff Francis
      3/ Ubaldo Jiminez
      4/ Franklin Morales??????????
      5/ Kip Wells/ Josh Towers ???????????

      Bullpen

      Closer/ Manny Corpas
8th/ Brian Fuetes.....if the Rockies sign him and don't trade him
      7th/ Luis Vizcaino
Matt Herges/ Ryan Speier/ Taylor Buchholz

Reserve Outfielders / Ryan Spilbourgs/ Cory Sullivan?

Reserve Infielders/ Clint Barmes/ Ian Stewart

Thanks for posting all the info... I will be at the ST complex on Saturday the 16th and will be there every weekend through April.

I'll be sure to update this thread with anything that I see or hear. I will be lucky enough to have on field access to the practice fields- that's where I get most of my communciation with the players and coaches, as well as photos.

One thing I am banking on is Joe Koshansky getting a roster spot. It might not happen right out of ST, but I can see it by May or June. He's good insurance for the aging Todd Helton.

That would be great with the updates Zito. I was going to put Joe Koshansky on the guessing list as a reserve infielder but I couldn't find his name on the 40 man roster I posted and forgot how to spell his last name.

I'm hoping that Omar Quintanilla has a good ST since he is a favorite of mine. There is just something about his name I like well that and the soft hands like the other Omar to.

Have fun at Hi Corbett Field and Tucson Electric Park and where ever else you go.

Not that this thread is going to get bumped down to quick with the low traffic in the Rockies section but could a mod sticky this thread and remove the stickys for the 2007 season and playoff threads.

Thank you if you can and no biggie if you can't.

Fuentes will get a raise from $3,525,000 to $5.05 million rather than his request for $6.5 million after saving 20 games in helping the Colorado Rockies reach the World Series for the first time. His case was decided by arbitrators Robert Bailey, Dan Brent and Elliott Shriftman.

Well I believe that is the last Rockies player that we had to secure. Hats off to the front office. They keep doing this down through the years and we will have high hopes of a contender each year. 96-06 was just to long to go through again so soon.

Just got back from the Rockies camp. Word is that Brian Fuentes has been in court the past couple days- He was a no show today as was Josh Towers. My camera batteries wouldn't hold a charge- probably due to the crappy weather. Practice was slated to start at 10 but was delayed until 2. (we actually had snow around the Tucson Metro area yesterday!) When I finally saw the guys come out on the field, they looked good- Aaron Cook looked pretty sharp today. Will report back tomorrow and hope I can resolve the camera issues!

I hope that court don't turn into a major issue for Fuentes in the press.

Good luck with the batteries and hope the weather takes a turn to the good.

                  Have fun.

Weather was better today- Looks like my camera is dead as I tried new batteries and had no luck. I'll hopefully have some pics up that a friend took of me getting autos and stuff. Watched a full day of BP today- Holiday was ripping some long balls. Seth Smith also looked good. Met Josh Tower's wife today- she is very nice and outgoing. I'll be back at it next Saturday as I work all week.

                      Was she hot?

Looking forward to some pictures from ST. The local rags have showed one picture of Torrealba and that is it. Torrealba is saying that his shoulder is feeling better this year and hopes to improve on his throw out % which was only above Estrada last year for NL starting catchers. Quirk also stated how important it was for the pitchers to work on holding the runners better this year with a lot of focus on Ubaldo.

RIP Camera, we will miss you......haaaaaaa!

Yep, Tower's wife is pretty. She was a cheerleader through highschool, and yes, she looks "healthy" I guess you could say. =) She's a very nice person. Torrealba looked good when I saw him hitting on Sunday. Granted I didn't see him throw, but he looked good and he seemed happy about his new contract.

Will give more updates Saturday- I am currently looking for a loaner camera!

Fuentes was in camp on Sunday. He wouldn't answer any questions or sign any autographs, which is par for the course for him.

Bump: to get 'Rockies on Roids' ancient news off the front page.

Rockies make the WS and a new member has to post up trash about them.

TUCSON — Come March 31 when the Rockies open the regular season in St. Louis, today's exhibition opener will be a hazy memory.

But blood was pumping and hearts were racing prior to their 7-3 victory over the White Sox. The highlight for the defending National League champions was a solo homer by Troy Tulowitzki in his first at-bat of the Cactus League season.
