  • Rockies/D Backs Tuesday May 13th

Tuesday May 13th 7:40 MT- TV: FSN | Radio: KOA 850
    TV: FSN-HD, KPHE 44 | Radio: KTAR 620, KSUN 1400

    Chase Field

_______Rockies 15-23 at Diamond Backs 23-15_______

    _______Jeff Francis 0-3 5.27era vs Randy Johnson 2-1 5.06era_______

Rockies: Francis has made seven starts this season and this is the longest he's gone without a win to start a season in his career. He had pitched better as of late; however, he admittedly was off his game on Wednesday against St. Louis. He struggled locating pitches and a high pitch count forced him to leave the game after five innings. However, he was able to hold the Cardinals to three runs. Even with his struggles, Francis has been the Rockies best option in the starting rotation this season other than Aaron Cook.

D-backs: Johnson picked up the win against the Phillies his last time out despite allowing four runs on five hits over six innings. The win was No. 286 for Johnson. The left-hander is still working out the kinks in his command, but he seemed to get a jump in velocity this time around as his fastball touched 94 mph and his slider checked in at 86 with some of its old bite.

Matt Holliday was given the day off Sunday. ... Greg Reynolds, who made his first big league start Sunday was the third Rockie to make his debut this season, joining Jonathan Herrera and Jayson Nix. ... Reynolds is the sixth-youngest player to make his debut in franchise history. ... Garrett Atkins extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a seventh-inning single on Sunday.

After a hot spring, infielder Chris Burke has struggled to get going offensively in the regular season. Burke entered Sunday's game with a .137 batting average in 51 at-bats. It is sometimes harder for bench players to work their way out of struggles at the plate because of a lack of playing time. "He's not getting the opportunities, really, to get out of the slump that he's in," Melvin said. "It's not like he hasn't gotten some at-bats, I've given him some opportunities, he's just not quite there yet. Sometimes, all it takes is one game. I think if he does get a couple of good at-bats, gets a couple of hits, I think it could turn around very quickly for him." ... Second baseman Orlando Hudson (strained right hamstring) was out of the lineup Sunday in large part because of the cold, wet conditions. "This is probably as bad of conditions to try and bring somebody back from a hamstring injury," Melvin said.

Francis has pitched well enough to win 3 outta the last 4 games starting with that 22 inning marathon that didn't do the Padres of the Rockies any favors. Then within a week both teams played a 13 inning game.

      Francis is due
De La Rosa looked good his last time out
Ubaldo is always one bad inning away from a good game
Rockies bats can only heat up
      Pretty good D again
The thing that bothers me most is the bad baserunning lately. 0 fer 3 at trying to take 3rd base

123 games of baseball left to watch so I'm a happy camper.
