  • When did the dodger caps become purple?

I bought a dodger cap about 5 years ago and upon closer inspection and comparison with my Brooklyn cap, they were very different colors. I thought it was just the company that made that specific cap but since then, it seems like the official Dodger caps almost always look purple. Am I losing my mind? This is the official cap but it aint Dodger Blue

            Those are good pictures Willis.
After studying them I do see much more consistency in color than I would have thought. They are misleading though. The Dodger caps NOW do not always look like that. Many times you will will see this:

blues change from different lighting. as you can see from this pic, it does not look any different from the last 60 years of dodger blue, and quite different from the color you posted, even though its the exact same cap. i'm sure if you photographed an authentic brooklyn cap in the right light, it would look purplish too.

It wouldn't surprise me if the color has changed over the years. Look what has happened to the Yankees logo.

That is not the official cap; that is a "Dodgers Royal Franchise Cap" that is part of the "Fashion Caps" line. Perhaps that explains the difference in color.
The official on-field cap is the "Dodgers Authentic Game Performance 59 FIFTY On-Field Cap." They look pretty much like Dodger Blue to me, but I agree that they may look "purplish" in certain light. Just my two cents.

This crazy blue/purple phenomenon also works in reverse. Lakers road jerseys and both Kings jerseys appear to be blue on TV. But you see one with your own eyes and they're purple as the day is long.

you can take the Dodgers out of Brooklyn, but you can't take the Brooklyn out of the DODGERS
