  • Joe Torre so far

Yes, it's quite early. However, I may as well ask here, since he's managing your team, not my own. Anyway, how do the forumers here like his managerial style? Do you like how he sets up the lineups, how he treats the rotation, bullpen, how he presents himself overall as a manager.

I'm just trying to find out how you folks feel about him overall.

    Thanks.

I he's done alright. However, I don't like the inconsistencies in the lineups

Sorry for my delay in replying. I'd meant to post about this, but haven't so far.

Anyway, what is there about his lineup changes that you didn't like?

The inconsistency. Different lineup every day. However, I suppose it could be he's trying to figure out who hits better in one spot or another

I've never believed a manager made a huge difference to a team, for the most part, and any success or failure a team experiences is often attributed, usually unfairly, to the manager. Their importance is generally overrated, IMO. Sure, they can help influence the outcome of a game once in a while and may be a positive influence in the locker room, but a manager's success is pretty much contingent upon the players he has, in my opinion. Torre had great success with a team, the Yankees, who had great players and the biggest payroll in baseball. He is now with another team with one of the biggest payrolls although, to be fair, they have a lot of younger players now who don't earn as much as most of their teams in recent years.

Obviously, the jury is out as to how well Joe will fare but, for now, I choose to withhold my opinion until I've seen a little more. I doubt, though, that he will do a whole heck of a lot better than Jim Tracy did last year, or that almost any manager would do with the same players. He may, however, since his young players now have another year of seasoning under their belts.

I have no doubt some will disagree, but that's my opinion based on what I have seen.

Will Mark Sweeney ever start a game? Or will he have 150 pinch hit at bats this year?

How is he supposed to be a good pinch hitter if he's getting 4-7 AB a week? He needs to start once in a while. Maybe he could start the Sunday afternoon games (even if it's against a LHP).

So far I'm liking Torre...save for the lineup issues in OF. With all of the changes I doubt anyone can get into a good groove. But it's early so I understand. I also like he insisted on keeping kershaw down in the minors. There's no doubt he'll be great, but he has to start locating and start commanding more than his fastball/changeup. But don't get me started on kershaw, I may start salivating.

Joe Torre is a great, friendly person--but--he needs some of those big bats he had in New York.

The Dodgers start a four game series tonight at Shea.

                            As always.......

Torre removed Lowe after 91 pitches and 7 shutout innings. He still had gas left in the tank, and with the way the pen has looked the previous two games, I'd rather take my chances with the starter. Not a good managerial decision.

Neither is giving Mark Sweeney and his .098 batting average any playing time.
