    I think if the Brooklyn Dodger--inducted as a Dodger--wore a number, that number should be retired. So, Dazzy Vance and Burleigh Grimes should have numbers retired. Did Uncle Robbie have a number? If so, his number, too.

    Durocher could be retired along with Lasorda. The Yankees have #8 for both Bill Dickey and Yogi Berra.

    By the way, I've read that part of Rickey's thinking in letting Durocher go is that he was under pressure from O'Malley and was, in a way, both blocking O'Malley and protecting Durocher by giving him a landing place with the Giants. As shrewd as Rickey was, I wouldn't be surprised.

      There are a few Yankees/Highlanders in the HoF that didn't wear numbers.

        Rickey was very shrewed, I wouldn't put anything past him. He should be honored too. battlin bake, the dodger dynamo
