It's official: Fernandez named Opening Day starter

Marlins right-hander Jose Fernandez, the reigning National League Rookie of the Year, will start the team's Opening Day game on March 31 against the Rockies in Miami. Manager Mike Redmond made the not-so-surprising announcement on Sunday, before the Marlins faced the Nationals in a Grapefruit League game at Space Coast Stadium.

Salty's homer helps Marlins overcome miscues

The first home run of Spring Training was a big one for Jarrod Saltalamacchia. The blast in the fourth inning gave the Marlins the lead, and they went on to defeat the Twins, 3-1, on Tuesday at Roger Dean Stadium.

Fernandez brilliant in win over Mets

Jose Fernandez was his usual brilliant self in a 5-2 victory at Tradition Field, holding the Mets to two hits with two strikeouts over 3 1/3 shutout innings.

I was at his major league debut last year. Not sure if Fernandez was good or the Mets were bad.

Stanton, 24, willing to take on leadership role

When you're a buff 6-foot-6, 250-pounder and belt a baseball as far as anyone on the planet, people take notice. On a youthful Marlins squad, Giancarlo Stanton clearly stands out. Not just because of his massive stature and his threat at the plate, but because he is looked upon to be an example.

Why can't the Marlins beat the Braves or Nats or Phillies instead?

Hech, Marlins enjoy big day behind Alvarez

Marlins right-hander Henderson Alvarez and Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright both tossed scoreless outings in their spring debuts, while Adeiny Hechavarria collected three RBIs in Miami's 7-3 victory over St. Louis on Friday afternoon at Roger Dean Stadium.

Stanton brings home two runs on a double
