Alvarez tries to beat Nats for first time, secure series

Left-hander Andrew Heaney, the Marlins' No. 1 prospect, threw a one-hit shutout Tuesday and Triple-A New Orleans defeated Round Rock, 9-0, in a game shortened to six innings by rain.

Furcal set to begin rehab assignment on Thursday

While Jose Fernandez was in Los Angeles getting his cast and stitches removed, second baseman Rafael Furcal is moving closer to game action in Jupiter, Fla. Furcal will begin his rehab assignment with Class A Jupiter on Thursday.

The rehabilitation process for Jose Fernandez is about to begin. Fernandez, the Marlins' ace, had his cast and stitches removed on Tuesday in Los Angeles, and now his road to recovery comes next.

Capps goes on disabled list with elbow sprain

Carter Capps, who has impressed with a fastball that has reached as high as 101 mph this season, was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a right elbow sprain. Arquimedes Caminero, another hard-throwing reliever, was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans.

Marlins rained out in DC, no makeup date official

About the time the Marlins were wrapping up batting practice at Nationals Park on Tuesday night, the grounds crew was rolling the tarp onto the field in anticipation of heavy rains. About an hour later, roughly at 7:15 p.m. ET, the Marlins-Nationals game was postponed.
