Marlins opt to slate Fernandez for sim game

The Marlins think All-Star pitcher Jose Fernandez has had enough of the Mets for now. The right-hander will throw a simulated game on Monday rather than face New York for the second time this spring.

Johnson's role could go beyond mentor for Marlins

Marlins non-roster invitee Reed Johnson knows a thing or two about mentoring young players. In parts of two seasons with the Braves, Johnson helped guide the young club to back-to-back postseason appearances

Stanton hits first homer to back Koehler's solid start

Giancarlo Stanton provided the "wow factor" with his monstrous solo home run in the fourth inning. But the decisive blow was delivered by Alex Avila, who lined a two-out, two-run double in the eighth inning that vaulted the Tigers to a 3-1 win over the Marlins on Sunday afternoon at Roger Dean Stadium.

Jensen goes deep as Marlins rally past Red Sox.

Brian Flynn, who has an outside shot at winning a spot in the Marlins' rotation, turned in a strong performance, giving up one hit and no runs over three innings during a 5-4 win over the Red Sox on Tuesday afternoon at JetBlue Park.

Despite down spring, hopes high for Ozuna

The expectations are still there for Marcell Ozuna, the always upbeat and often energized Marlins outfielder. The 23-year-old entered Spring Training as the frontrunner to win the center-field job.

                          Power returns for Stanton

Big bangs or small bops, balls are flying off Giancarlo Stanton's bat once again this spring. It's a welcome sign considering how injuries have slowed the All-Star right fielder throughout his career.
