For openers, Fernandez rewrites history books
Every time Jose Fernandez takes the mound, you have a chance to witness history. The Marlins' young ace did it again on Opening Day, when he etched his name in several record books.

Alvarez faces Rox in first start since no-hitter
Marlins right-hander Henderson Alvarez's start against the Rockies on Wednesday night is special in its own right, because it's his first of 2014. But the last time Alvarez took the mound at Marlins Park, the Venezuela native made history. On Sept. 29, the final day of the regular season, Alvarez no-hit the Tigers in a game Miami won 1-0 in walk-off style

Play at plate elicits strategy, if not challenge

Plays at home plate will be closely watched now that Major League Baseball has changed its rule on collisions. One play in particular could have turned controversial in Miami's 4-3 win over the Rockies on Tuesday night.

Strides in bullpen tested early against Rockies

In 2013, the Marlins were involved in 89 games that were decided by two runs or fewer -- they won 34 of them. The bullpen knows it will play a major role if the club is to reverse that trend this season.

Call upheld in Marlins' first challenge

The first instant replay challenge at Marlins Park was upheld on Wednesday. As with many of the early innings, the call did not go the Marlins' way against the Rockies.

Alvarez's 2014 debut falls short of '13 finale

When Henderson Alvarez last took the mound at Marlins Park, it was a day to remember. The right-hander capped Miami's 2013 season by no-hitting the Tigers. On Wednesday night, Alvarez gave up three earned runs in a 6-5 loss to the Rockies.

                          Dobbs approaching pinch-hit milestone
Greg Dobbs is close to joining some exclusive company. The Marlins veteran already holds the distinction of being the Major League's active leader with 96 career pinch-hits. With four more, he would be just the 12th player in the history of the game with at least 100.

Missing the last week of Spring Training may turn out to be a blessing for Marlins shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria.

Stanton keeps Marlins' bullpen on alert
It's not often relievers in the bullpen take cover on a home run. But not every home run packs the turbo-charged boost of a Giancarlo Stanton blast. On Wednesday night, Stanton ripped a laser shot to right field that not only made it over the wall at Marlins Park, it caromed off an auxiliary strip, and almost bounced and hit Mike Dunn.

Stanton, Marlins pull off two-out rally, beat Rockies
For most of the afternoon, the Marlins repeatedly found themselves coming up 90 feet short of tying the game. In the eighth inning, their fortunes changed, and they were able to cash in with three two-out hits
