    • Turner placed on disabled list; Caminero recalled
The Marlins are taking no chances with Jacob Turner's strained right shoulder. They placed him on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Friday, and recalled reliever Arquimedes Caminero from Triple-A New Orleans.

      • Marlins show pop, but pitchers falter vs. Nats
The Marlins had plenty of run support on Wednesday night, but they didn't have an answer for the Nationals' firepower. Jayson Werth delivered a grand slam off Carlos Marmol in the eighth inning that rallied the Nationals to a 10-7 win over the Marlins at Nationals Park.

            • Owings could help Marlins down the road

Pitching depth is always crucial over the course of a long season. When the pitcher can also hit, it makes the player even more intriguing. In Micah Owings, the Marlins feel they've got a potential piece for later on in the season

              • Patient Yelich seeing plenty of pitches at plate.

Who is on the mound helps determine if Christian Yelich will bat first or second for the Marlins. Sometimes the 22-year-old sits against left-handed starters. On other occasions, he has batted second when Adeiny Hechavarria gets the nod to lead off. The constant with Yelich is he will work counts and see pitches.

                • Fernandez faces former Marlin Burnett in Philly.

Citizens Bank Park may be known as a hitters' park, but to Jose Fernandez, it brings back a special memory. Last May, it was the site of the right-hander's first Major League win. For A.J. Burnett, facing Miami will be just like old times. The veteran right-hander made his big league debut with the Marlins in 1999, and he was part of the organization's 2003 World Series championship team.

                  • Hand earns another start while Turner is out

Brad Hand didn't log as many innings as he would have liked on Wednesday night, but the left-hander did enough to show the Marlins he is deserving of at least another start.

                    • Marlins can't solve Strasburg, drop fourth straight.

Tom Koehler, like Stephen Strasburg, surrendered one home run on Thursday afternoon. The difference is the Marlins' right-hander issued a walk prior to yielding a two-run blast to Jayson Werth. Werth's shot, coupled with Strasburg's 12 strikeouts, provided the Nationals with the necessary boost to beat the Marlins, 7-1, completing a three-game sweep at Nationals Park.

As a junior in high school, Nathan Eovaldi underwent Tommy John surgery. It was a turning point in his life. It wasn't until he rehabbed from the procedure that he realized the potential of his physical gifts.
