    George Genovese died November 15 at age 93.

    Legendary baseball scout George Genovese, who left his family's Clove Road home for the minor leagues in the days before World War II and remained in the game for the next 75 years, scouting and signing the likes of Bobby Bonds, Dave Kingman and George Foster, died Sunday in Burbank, Ca.

    An undersized middle-infielder whose one official big league at-bat came early in the 1950 season with the woeful Washington Senators, was one of five baseball-playing brothers raised in depression-era Staten Island who loved to tell stories of chasing grazing goats off empty North Shore lots in order to play pick-up games.

    Rene Picota died August 21 at age 81.

    Lou Fitzgerald died in 2013, but I thought his passing merited mention here. He was 93.

    Lou spent 55 years as a Minor League manager or scout for the Atlanta Braves, Cincinnati Reds, Houston Astros and Baltimore Orioles organizations, as well as being a Super Scout in on the ground level of the beginning of the Florida Marlins expansion team. He is a member of the Chattanooga Sports Hall of Fame, Cleveland Sports Hall of Fame, San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame, Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame and most recently in 2011 was inducted into the Professional Scouts Hall of Fame.
