  • Jeffrey Loria open to considering sale of Marlins

Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria is “receptive to the possibility of selling” the organization, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports. Loria has at least floated the rather lofty price tag of $1.7B, Mike Ozanian of Forbes reported yesterday, though Jackson says that he dangled a lower asking price (by how much isn’t known) to one prior would-be buyer who checked in.

I guess he's gotten all the profit he can from the city, state, and team. Only thing left is how much he can make from selling the team.

Interesting to note that the only comments here are by Mets fans??

Nah. But as far as I'm concerned, I hope he loses his shirt on the sale.

The Marlins have a “handshake agreement” in place to sell the team to a New York-based real estate developer for the price of $1.6 billion, reports Mike Ozanian of Forbes. Ozanian cites two anonymous sources that claim to have been told by Marlins president David Samson that the deal is in place. The $1.6 billion price tag would be more than 10 times the $158MM price at which owner Jeffrey Loria purchased the team back in 2002.

The hangup in the reported agreement for the time being is that the potential buyer does not have enough liquid assets to make the purchase, as the majority of his net worth is tied up in real estate investments. Allowing this buyer to purchase the team would require more debt than Major League Baseball would be comfortable with, per Ozanian.

Gotta go slow on this one as the reported buyer is having cash issues at the moment..MLB is looking very closely at this one. And yes, it would feel great to get Loria out of the way but I'm not sure this particular buyer would be better.

Don't feel too bad. There is always another rich, bored, investor/tech genius that doesn't know what to do with all their money. Just a question of polishing up the product.
