Brewers, Hardy headed for a hearing - Brewers Blog
Just got off the telephone with general manager Doug Melvin and he said it appears the club will go to an arbitration hearing with shortstop J.J. Hardy.
That hearing is scheduled for Monday in St. Petersburg, Fla., and Melvin said he already has a flight scheduled to go there Sunday evening.
"We've pretty much stopped talking," said Melvin, when asked if negotiations were going anywhere.
If the Brewers and Hardy go to a hearing, it will be the first for Melvin since he took over the reins of the club in September 2002. Hardy, who made $400,000 last season, filed a request for $3.05 million, with the Brewers offering $2.4 million.
