Jason Kendall had laser eye surgery over the off-season and credits this to an improved batting eye.


"I feel like I'm 18 again," Kendall said of his vision improvement. "I'm picking up the rotation on the ball like I used to."

Good news. Hopefully that will translate to a few more base runners for Rickie Weeks to knock around. But that’s not the point of this post.

I don't think there can be a comparison between laser eye surgery and the use of steroids or HGH. The mere fact of the matter is that good sight is a basic necessity for playing baseball. If a player has poor eysight and is to get laser eye surgery I do not think that he is gaining any kind of unfair advantage. I'd compare that more to somebody getting treatment for an injury which is affecting that players performance. Besides, unlike steroids and HGH, in no sport is laser eye surgery illegal.
