With 2,861 whiffs in his career, Martinez is closing in on the 3,000-K threshold. He needs only 139 this season to become the 14th member of that elite group, and not since 1993 (when he was a reliever with the Dodgers) did he fail to record at least that many in a season. If Pedro stays healthy, he's a lock. Incidentally, his career mark of 10.25 strikeouts-per-nine-innings is the third-best all-time mark.
