  • So the Blue Jays get Molina...

Alright, let me get this straight. Minaya decides that trading a top pitching prospect for an aging, overpaid, mediocre all-around catcher is better than just signing a defensive specialist with some pop? Well, that happened. Bengie Molina got a one year, $5 million contract from the Blue Jays. I don't understand why all of a sudden Minaya decided that signing Ramon Hernandez or Bengie Molina would be a bad move, but trading our last remaining pitching prospect for a lesser catcher would be a good move. Can someone explain to me how this happened (I already know the answer, I'd just like to hear other people vent)?

This is not the NBA were you can tell if a rookie is going to be great, also the mets made an offer of 18M for 3 years and molina did not take it.

yeah, its not like the Mets didnt make an offer... Molina was just being a hard-a$$ and tried to hold out for more.. In the long run we still a decent catcher and Molina got screwed....

Besides, the only player that Molina can outrun to first is, maybe, Frank Thomas...and by not accepting the Mets' offer, Molina just may have provided another reason why his nickname is Bengie Molasses...

Guru, your version of the story isn't entirely true.

Molina and his agent state that Molina and also Ramon Hernandez got the same exact offer. (I believe it was Hernandez)

Molina's agent then states that they never even got to 'counter' offer to the Mets...talks just broke down and the Mets never got back to Molina or his agent.

So the Mets did make an offer....but it was similiar to when the Mets made Vlad Guerrero a 3Yr/$30M offer....was that really an offer?

I said, Mr. Barrow, there is only one answer to that - Mr. Gehrig is terribly underpaid."- Yankees outfielder Joe DiMaggio
