              It's not a question of competence. Fred drains a fortune from Mets/SNY revenue by keeping things cheap. He lures enough fans into the ballpark with aging former stars to draw at least 2 million a year. Fred doesn't want anyone around suggesting spending money on Mets HoF plaques, excess analytics personnel or anything else.

              He also gets to lord it over a lot of people better at baseball than he is, with no interference.

              Fred gets everything he wants out of the team.

              What we call competence would only spoil his fun and easy profit.
