It's like a script, a slow motion train wreck, a movie you've seen over and over.. No point in getting aggravated. At least they have the bats to give them a shot at it, I suppose.
I hate to say it, but you can see it on their faces. They come into the game and look like they already lost even when they have a big lead.

The bullpen is terrible and Ramos is not to blame. He is not the reason the bullpen gave up 7 runs and lots of walks.

It'll be interesting to see what Diaz's, Familia's, Betances' numbers are with other catchers, once there's a larger sample size. Because the relievers have to work at the bottom of the zone to be effective (and even have a few lower strikes stolen), I felt a better framing catcher needed to be acquired - at least for the late innings.

I'll have to get back into the routine of paying attention. It still seems like a bit of a novelty there's baseball right now. I'm glad it's back.

Yep, they're already down 3-0 in the second--nope, 4-0 now...gotta hand it to them, the Mets are nothing if not consistent in causing aggravation...

But I'd better be aggravated at a game or box score than have neither. With the Cardinals' positive COVID tests today, who knows how long they can keep going and be safe, it may just be days before they pause at this point.

          • These guys are truly a joke, both defensively and on the mound.
            Put it in the books.

            • 7.09 ERA by the bullpen thus far this season, according to the SNY telecast...and that was BEFORE tonight.

Feh--I swear I can't remember the last time the Mets had a functioning bullpen...not the last few years, not the playoff years of 2015 and 2016, not the few years before...

              • And Kilome gives up a homer to Acuna on the first pitch of his second inning in the big leagues...

                • Mets lose 7-1, McNeil had an interesting at-bat before drawing a walk.

I can't wait for that career .297 OBP batting leadoff for the Mets!

                      • The Mets announced a series of roster moves this morning, including the news that right-hander Jared Hughes has been activated from the injured list. Righty Franklyn Kilome was optioned to the minor league training site to make 30-man roster room for Hughes. Also of note is the news that infielder Jed Lowrie has been moved from the 10-day IL to the 45-day IL.

He'd immediately turn the outfield into an excellent one. Maybe that's more important than offense right now. Marisnik is out. Part of the beauty of Syndergaard and Wheeler was their high K/9 rates. Fewer batted balls were hit, which exposed the defense less. Porcello and Wacha are a different story.

He's always been an intriguing talent. As with Eric Young Jr., you'd hope he could figure out how to get on base 3%-5% more often, which would make him a very valuable player. Until then, he'll probably hit 9th. Perhaps, when deGrom pitches, the DH can be used for Hamilton instead.

If I'm not mistaken, Hamilton was available as a free agent for a while. The Mets have now spent a lot of talent to fill the defensive 4th/5th outfielder role.

Well, that should take care of Lowrie's Mets career. My hunch is Jeff signed him with a pre-existing condition, and the ongoing injury is kept vague, to make sure the insurance isn't voided. What else could it be? I've never heard of a mystery illness sidelining a player for an entire contract. Then again, signing him was a complete enigma anyway. They had no money for credible bullpen help. Why commit $20M to a back up 2nd baseman, so you can bump McNeil to 3rd string? Then again, why acquire Cano and bump McNeil to 2nd string?

For the record, Flores hit .317 last year, and is hitting .300, so far this season.

Jeff remains the worst GM in the sport.

                          • Not sure if Hamilton can help them anymore than Lagares or Marisnick can. We spoke about defense this offseason. Too many players at the wrong defensive position or who just can’t play defense. Great point above about not having a staff of strike out pitchers and how bad defense will kill them

The team should think about trading JD Davis to the Red Sox. He played well at Fenway.

                              • The Pirates have acquired right-handed pitcher Tyler Bashlor from the Mets in exchange for cash considerations, reports Tim Healey of Newsday. The Pirates have designated LHP Robbie Erlin for assignment in order to clear a spot on the 40-man roster.
