deGrom on post game. Felt a grab and didn’t want to risk getting injured. Not too worried right now.

    • Lugo gets spotted 3 runs and gives it right back on 3 hrs. Absolutley pathetic! What a bunch of sorry losers.

        • I dunno why, but I'm flashing back to a 23-22 extra-inning Cubs/Phillies game I saw once.
          Put it in the books.

            • Mets win 10-6, Diaz had the bases loaded but held on!

                • 1. Gregorious bailed out Wilson and maybe the whole game for the Mets swinging when Wilson CLEARLY didn't have it and popping up.

                  2. Brandom Nimmo and Dom Smith come through big time again.

                  3. Diaz had to make it interesting by loading the bases (though he was pitching for the third straight day) but hangs on for the save.

                  4. The Mets win an important one, are now a 1.5 back for the final Wild Card spot held by the Giants with 10 to play.

                  5. AND those 10 games: 3 vs. the Braves, 3 vs. the Rays, 4 vs. the Nationals for the Mets...for the Giants, 3 vs. the Athletics, 4 vs. the Rockies, 4 vs. the Padres.

More than 50% of ML teams are making the playoffs. It would be no great feat. Let's be honest: this team needs to regroup, have a good off season, and be ready to compete for real next season. With so many rounds of series, this new system will work against the Mets, when they finally field a good roster. They're not very far away right now.

They’re one of the teams not making the playoffs right now. The no great feat makes it worse not better in my opinion.

Their big gamble was not signing Wheeler and counting on Porcello/Wacha to pick up the slack. Then Noah, goes down, Stroman walks away and Matz loses it. I guess they never heard the saying you can never have enough pitching.
They do have a nucleus of good young position players but the pitching staff is far from playoff quality. They will need major upgrades to the staff if they will be taken seriously next year.

                        • Mets news: They optioned Luis Guillorme to alternate site to activate Franklyn Kilome.

Guillorme has slashed .347/.431/.429 in 58 plate appearances, but they didn't play him regularly & needed a fresh arm.

He can't come back to majors this year unless someone goes on the IL.

                          • 9 of the first 12 Braves batters reach, 5 runs and 7 outs and it's just the second inning...

Starting a game down the stretch starting Steven Matz this year is like punting on 1st down.

A gamble would have been to sign Wheeler at the end of 2018. By letting him walk, the Wilpons played the cheap, sure thing. We all knew they were downgrading the pitching.

And the real payoff of the pitching problems, is this. They're taking their best defensive shortstop/2nd baseman, who can also hit, off the roster, to bring up "an arm".

Cano trade blocked McNeil and Guillorme, plus cost Dunn, who'd be useful right now.

                                Jeff's a terrible GM.
