  • First the good news:
    • Mets' Steven Matz: Moving to bullpen

      Rotowire 3 hrs ago

Matz will pitch out of the bullpen going forward, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
Matz would have been on schedule to start Wednesday against the Rays... Matz can't exactly claim he deserves a starting role at the moment, as he owns a 9.79 ERA on the year in six starts and one relief appearance. With just five days left in the season, it would be a surprise if he makes another start.
    Now the bad news:

Mets' Michael Wacha: Returning to rotation

Wacha made his previous appearance out of the bullpen, but he's a starter by trade and will return to that role Wednesday, pushing Steven Matz into a bullpen role. He hasn't had a particularly good time in his first and potentially only season as a Met, posting a 6.75 ERA and a 1.68 WHIP in 28 innings of work.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other.
      Put it in the books.

      • Defense. Field the ball cleanly and you are out of the inning and Lugo pitches a gem. Bad defense has killed this team for the last two years, when will they learn.

I am old enough to remember the 1999 Mets, they could field and defend like no other team.

          • Diaz pitching well. A nice change. But cover the base.

            • Mets win 5-2, Heredia hits a homer and Diaz pitches a drama-free inning.

              • Boy the Tampa team is the best team I’ve seen all year.

They are the best managed franchise in baseball. Too bad they have no fans.

MLB Network did a countdown of the top 10 all time infield defenses and the 1999 Mets were 3rd I think....maybe 4th.

Probably the best organization in the game -- along with the Dodgers as far as producing talent. The difference is the Dodgers get to keep theirs, and take yours.

                        • Michael Conforto's season is over. The Mets just placed him on the injured list due to hamstring tightness. Luis Guillorme is back up.

                          • It’s early but David Peterson so far is representing the first round of the 2017 MLB draft very well. Impressive.

                            • It sounds like there is a Nationals fan with a megaphone outside the ballpark in leftfield heckling Edwin Diaz. He is requesting a pitcher, not a belly-itcher.

                              • Mets win 3-2, Robinson Chirinos drove in all three runs, Edwin Diaz shaky but held on for the save.
