The Post has learned the Mets have interest in Craig Wilson, someone who could serve as a righty bat and offer defensive versatility. Wilson primarily has played first base and right field in his career, but he's also experienced in left and behind the plate."

Wilson would be signed to a Minor League contract. Besides, we currently have no AAA first baseman."They put me in the Hall of Fame? They must really be scraping the bottom of the barrel!"
-Eppa Rixey, upon learning of his induction to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

But I do agree that at this point most of the free agents remaining could be had on a MiL deal. If Wilson is smart he'd see the Mets lack of outfield depth/ righty bats off the bench. Also with questions about Delgado maybe being on the decline, Alou never staying healthy, and Church supposedly not being able to hit lefties, he could have a solid shot at getting a good amount of playing time if he has a hot spring.

"Wouldn't Brett Harper be in line for the AAA 1b gig?"
Nope. Harper was signed to a Minor League contract by the San Francisco Giants and invited to ST.
Due to Mike Carp's struggles, he'll likely stay in AA. Michel Abreu, who is coming back this year, could even be worked into left field."They put me in the Hall of Fame? They must really be scraping the bottom of the barrel!"

I don't see Wilson as a bad pick-up, especially to fill out the bench. While he's not a starter at this point in his career, he does have some pop in his bat. Jose Valentin, Marlon Anderson, Damion Easley and Ramon Castro are all good options and have shown the ability to come up with a clutch hit and some power, but if I'm looking for a HR, I think I'd rather have Wilson at the plate. He has hit 29 HR's in a season, so you know the power is there.
Plus, his ability to play the OF may make him a good complement to Ryan Church when there's a tough lefty on the mound. As a low cost gamble (minor league deal), I think he makes sense.www.rotoprofessor.com a daily baseball blog featuring rankings, rookie reviews, news and much more. Check it out!

The guy I really wanted to sign was Josh Phelps. I'm not sure if Wilson has much left, he's been pretty terrible the past 2 seasons.
