  • Ryan Church

Ryan Church is actually a pretty good player. Never got a real chance to play everyday but he could hit ya 25 hrs a year.

How much playing time do you think he gets?

I am thinking about 450 ABs. He should get (at least I hope) most of the RF ABs and Alou will miss some time in LF.

He'll probably get close to 500 ABs.

I saw him play alot with the Nats, he is a good fielder, and a good hitter too. He should average anywhere between 400-450 ab's like everyone else above me said. One thing I did notice is that he likes to hit doubles.

Chavez' numbers tend to fall off when he plays three-four days in a row.

Don't be too shocked if Alou platoons occasionally with Church. Church doesn't fare all that well against LHP's and Alou has experience in RF.

How are you going to have a platoon with your 2 starting corner OFs?

I truly feel like this is the season that Church proves he can be an everyday player in the big leagues. He had 43 doubles last season, which placed him 15th in the majors. He also produced more extra base hits then Derek Jeter, Brian McCann and Carl Crawford.

I projected him out at 282 AVG, 23 HR, 82 RBI, 71 R, 4 SB, which I would take from him in a heartbeat. He seems like he's going to do for this team what Xavier Nady did prior to his trade, which is something we have surely been missing.

I actually wrote a whole blog entry about why I think he's going to be a breakout player this season, which can be found here, if anyone is interested.

That was true last year, but for his career, his BA is pretty close between righties and lefties.

I made an extensive analysis of Church's prospects with the Mets at benchcoach: http://blog.benchcoach.com/2008/02/1...per-in-church/

I would bet you money that Alou doesn't move out of LF unless it's in an emergency. At his age, he will simply not be put in RF. Endy Chavez was literally coming in close to every other game as a defensive replacement in the late innings merely to rest Alou and Willie has stated if anyone platoons with Church, it's Easley or occassionally Endy.

We still have Pagan as our 5th outfielder, and Anderson as an emergency.
