After paying up that amount of jack, you'd hardly expect him to say anything else. What's he going to say "well, so long as the boys play well, it's OK if they don't make the playoffs again."

I'd say the person most affected by this remark would be Willie Randolph.

Willie has to inspire the horses, but in the end, the horses have to run the race.

Beltran and Delgado have to come through, Duaner Sanchez, if he returns to form, will be an important factor in the 7th and 8th innings, Reyes and Wright will also have to perform well.

With the addition of Johan Santana to Pedro Martinez, what do the Mets fans here think of their chances for October?

Seriously: if Martinez remains healthy and if Johan pitches well, we have a shot for the title.

I was listening to WFAN tonight and a Mets fan said he would be disappointed if the Mets didn't at least get to the World Series.

I'm wondering, if you Metsies use your famous crystal ball, what kind of stars would have to align on the diamond for this to happen? Who has to step it up big and do what?

What do you expect from Randolph, from Beltran, from Maine, El Duque, Pedro, Wagner, Reyes, Wright. How hard do they have to keep pushing, and what do they need to do to avoid the infamous and unfortunate Sept 2007 results?

I'm also seeing that Jimmy Rollins isn't willing to take a back seat to anybody, so anything about playing the Phillies hard, I wouldn't mind hearing about. I'd like to hear what this one team needs to do in order to get and keep the lead in their league.

I thought they were the best team in the NL the past two years. Sometimes the best team doesn't win. Look at the Superbowl.

Randolph: the same passive, strategically inept guy who has managed to keep his job the past 3 years.
Beltran: either his comments make him play with 100% but I'm expecting the same 85% effort he gives.
Maine: same numbers as last year but more consistency.
El Duque: at least 3 trips to the DL. In between then he'll pitch well.
Pedro: Pitch well but at least 1 trip to the DL.
Wagner: Same guy whose unwillingness to throw a slider throughout the season causes him to have nothing at the end, thus suck in the playoffs.
                      Reyes: No awful second half.
                      Wright: same as last year.

To avoid another 2007, they basically have to avoid injuries and everyone in the bullpen not suck at the end.

I'm also seeing that Jimmy Rollins isn't willing to take a back seat to anybody, so anything about playing the Phillies hard, I wouldn't mind hearing about. I'd like to hear what this one team needs to do in order to get and keep the lead in their league.
They better play the Phillies hard as well as every other team. They need to earn the reputation of being the best team in the NL like they did in 2006.

It's about time Mets ownership give some Steinbrenner-esque motivation to the team. If the players and coaches don't feel the pressure to win before they should now. Nothing less than a trip to WS this year will suffice. They are good enough to win it all and they know it. Now it's time to shut up and play.
