I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a Minor League contract and starts pitching for New Orleans halfway into the season. You can bet that at least one their starters will either have faltered and sent down or demoted to the 'pen, been injured, or simply promoted to the Majors to replace an injured Pedro or El Duque."They put me in the Hall of Fame? They must really be scraping the bottom of the barrel!"

I like the prospects of adding Garcia. You know that they are going to have pitchers get hurt during the season, primarily El Duque and Pedro. Even if they don't get "hurt", the Mets will probably shut them down to make sure they are fresh for the post season. Having another capable starter who can be plugged into the rotation just makes sense. And who would you rather have do that, Garcia, Pelfrey or Armas?
Granted, who knows how effective Garcia is going to be or when he will be ready to pitch, but as a low risk, low guarantee signing, it just makes sense.www.rotoprofessor.com a daily baseball blog featuring rankings, rookie reviews, news and much more. Check it out!

That's not how Rick Peterson operates, believe me. He might suggest to Willie that the rotation temporarily be expanded to six guys to try and save El Duque's arm (like late '06) or Pedro's arm (like late '07) and also with those two in the rotation, he may use Pelfrey, Armas, and Garcia (if acquired) to make a spot start for each of them, but he will not shut them down altogether.
I can see Garcia as a possible MLB contributor next year with the near-guaranteed loss of El Duque and possible loss of Oliver Perez (I know there's no long term deal in the works right now, but if you think we aren't going to try and resign him after the season, think again), but this year I see him basically rehabbing with Peterson, Conti, Brewer, et. al. tweaking his mechanics."They put me in the Hall of Fame? They must really be scraping the bottom of the barrel!"

Would seem we're not interested. Oh well. Would've made an interesting Minor League signing."They put me in the Hall of Fame? They must really be scraping the bottom of the barrel!"
