  • el duque hurting ....already!!!

At his blog for Newsday, David Lennon reports that Orlando Hernandez did not have a bunion removed as the Mets said he did.

Instead, “He had surgery to fix a dislocated second toe, which is now actually shorter, affecting his balance,” Lennon explains. “Because of that, Hernandez is lagging behind the other pitchers as he tries to adjust.”

~So now Orlando Hernandez has pain from the bunion, and pain from his second toe. These are types of injuries our grandparents should have, not someone making $8 million a year to win games.

Again I think to myself WHY WOULD ANYONE GIVE THIS GUY A 2 YEAR DEAL.. At this point I'm more in favor of signing Kyle Lohse to a one year deal, then giving El Duque a spot in this rotation. I don't care what you do with EL Duque.. Release him, for all I care..

Now because this senior citizen can't stay healthy for 2 minutes, Mike Pelfrey won't get the proper time needed to develop in AAA, and will AGAIN be thrown into a spot that he's no ready to fill.
Show me a guy who's afraid to look bad, and I'll show you a guy you can beat every time.

I'd rather 15-20 Hernandez appearances than any number of Lohse appearances.
Pelfrey can pick up the slack.

Well, the good news is that so far, Mike Pelfrey has looked terrific in ST. His confidence is way up from last year and his repertoire is also suited to generating more K's, but he should still be able to generate the grounders.

Let's take it easy and let things unfold. We have a long way to go till the season starts. Pelfrey is there for the slack and who knows, maybe Garcia can be signed if things don't work out as planned. He doesn't seem to be in a rush at this point as he still has several months to do before he can be ready.

It's conceivable that El Duque could be an abuelo already...or if not, in perhaps a few years. His older daughter, Yahumara, is going on 18.

Exactly. El Duque will have a "vacation" of sorts, Pelfrey will come up from N'awlins, and both will do well. Don't count out Tony Armas Jr., either.

I'm not sure which is funnier, El Duque having a bunion or the fact that someone wants El Duque released because he has a bunion. Regardless, El Duque is a good arm, and as people have said, Pelfrey will step in for El Duque when he is unable to pitch.

As long as he has that nasty hook, he can be effective. Hist starts will be down, but the depth at pitcher is much better for the Mets this season. Not a big deal, imo.
