According to their Facebook Group, a large group of Phillies fans are planning a ‘Take Over’ of Shea Stadium during the Phillies-Mets game on September 6.

…thanks to our old friend Luke Halpert for the link…

The following appears on their webpage…

“Are you sick and tired of stupid Mets fans taking over Citizen’s Bank Park? Well its time to return the favor! On Saturday September 6th Philadelphia will be taking over Shea Stadium. Right now we are in the process of talking to sales reps at Shea Stadium to get group tickets available. As soon as they are available we will post a log-in id and password so you can order your tickets! This game will be a FOX SATURDAY BASEBALL GAME which means its on NATIONAL TV!!!! I want as many Phillies fans there as humanly possible! Lets send Shea Stadium out with a bang! [email protected]#K THE METS!!!!!!”

…from what i can gather, more than 500 Phillies fans say they will try to attend the game…ugh…

For what it’s worth, the Mets travel to Philadelphia on Saturday, April 19 and Sunday, April 20, both of which are Nationally televised games.

Single-game tickets for Citizen’s Bank Park go on sale tomorrow, Thurs., Feb. 21, and can be purchased at Phillies.com.

Seriously? You're pulling stuff out of a facebook group. Great source. I'll bet this doesn't even go through. It's planned so late in the season and just because people say they're attenging now doesn't mean they will come gameday. That being said, I do expect more Phillies fans to make the trip up to Shea this year. I also expect CBP to see less Mets fans than previous years. This rivalry is at the next level now, no fanbase is going to take over the stadium of the other team.

Ha. Well let them come and pay for a ticket, it will just help the Mets pay Johan Santana's new contract...

Ohh, ok. So, more Phillies fans at Shea, but less Mets fans at CBP. Makes sense. What a weird assumption. Without merit too. You wouldn't happen to be a biased Phillies fan would you?

Yes, but the whole article is based on a facebook group. Might wanna read the next article you post.

Not exactly, but I can see your point. I should have elaborated more. Mets fans tend to crowd CBP every year. This year, there will be more bandwagon Phillies fans attending games this and Mets games will be a hot ticket (especially with the added bonus of a chance to see Santana pitch in person). On the other hand, not many Phillies fans usually make a trip up to the rat trap that is Shea. I think more will try this year (I myself will be making at least one trip this year, despite never doing so in the past). I admit the latter part might be a stretch, but I feel the first point will prove to be very true.

Let me also state that there is no need to get your panties in a knot. More Mets fans will attend Phillies games than vice versa. It's always been that way, and if it does change it is going to take a while. However, I don't think you will see the same extremely large crowds of Mets fans at CBP like you did in the past, and "Let's Go Mets!" chants certainly will not dominate the stands.

I'm not a Mets fan, so I wouldn't be one to really care about the whole Mets/Phillies rivalry or whatever -- but your statement still has no merit behind it. More bandwagon fans for a team that got swept in the NLDS? I guess, but not enough to make a difference.

-- You may not think that, but nothing has really changed, and you haven't shown any real reason for that to change.

No, more bandwagon fans for a team who won the division for the first time in 14 years. Philly is a football city first, but last season the Phillies gained a lot of attention. The bandwagoners started jumping on in the final month, and with a division title the team got much more exposure. With a division title to defend, three young exciting players in their prime, and a promising season ahead, demand for tickets is sure to increase. It's my opinion that the demand will be high enough to keep Mets fans from dominating the stadium.

And in the end, this is my opinion. Do I really need to "prove" it? even if you feel my proof is inadequate, what information have you given to prove me wrong?

The bandwagon fans from the end of last year is going to keep Mets fans out of CPB?

Did you forget the Mets acquired the best pitcher in baseball and it's the final season of Shea Stadium? If any stadium will have less of the rival fans this year, it will be Shea.

Nope. Just don't expect for everyone (or anyone, for that matter) to just take it as fact and not question you about it.

More tickets purchased by Phillies fans = less for Mets fans to purchase.

Your second point is correct. As you can see, I did say that earlier. But after the Phils took the division from you last year, you should expect more cocky fans to venture up there now that they have "leverage" in their mind. I'm not saying there will be more Phils fans in Shea than Mets fans in CBP, just that there will be more Philly fans in Shea than in past years...

I disagree simply because there are more reasons for Met fans to go to games which would prevent Philly fans from getting tickets.

Three things tend to soothe that a bit.

1: First playoff appearance in 17 years. Even a sweep is preferable to a lot of people than never getting to the dance at all. Not all of us can be like Boston, New York, et. al. where getting to the playofs is expected.
2: They made the playoffs in dramatic "Cardiac Cats" fashion like the 1980 team prided itself on -- the fans would identify that as a very Phillies way to win.
3: The core is intact for another run at the playoffs and the pitching situation is better (at least, it's less bad). There's roster reasons to believe the team has a shot.

Seriously, if Hamel can stay healthy and Myers can stay in the rotation instead of having to put out fires in the 'pen, with That Phillies' Offense they've got a shot and the fans should be responding accordingly.
