Brewers slugger Fielder unhappy with contract

Maybe the Mets can do something to satisfy him. I like this kid since he joined the majors and it would be perfect to see him at our first base in 2009.

    What do you guys think!?

With the season that he had last year: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/playerS...egoryId=289889

I say: Sign him for next year!!!

The Brewers have him for the next four years. Why would they donate him to anybody??

If Fielder doesn't like his contract its tough toe nails. All he has to do is keep putting up the big numbers and the money will come.

I mean, Fielder is obviously a great player...but he's not going to be a FA for a while...

But if he's unhappy in brewers country we maybe have a shot for a trade ... Heilman plus two others (without F-Mart)

I don't think the Mets have enough talent to trade for Prince Fielder. We're talking about one of the best offensive 1B in the majors, and he's only 23 years-old. Something tells me Aaron Heilman headlining a package won't do much. Plus, if for some reason the Mets and Brewers were in talks, I would trade Fernando Martinez in a second for Prince Fielder.

We had enough to get the best starter. And pitching is more important then batting. I would try it.

It's an ENTIRELY different situation. Johan Santana is making close to $20 million this season (with the salary tacked on by the Mets), and if he wasn't traded/didn't sign an extension with the Mets, he would have been a free agent after this season. Prince Fielder is making $670,000 this year, and is under control of the Brewers for the next few, and really doesn't have any say about his early contract years.

Also, just because Santana is the "best starter in baseball," doesn't mean that he's the most valuable trade-wise. Certainly guys like Scott Kazmir and Cole Hamels, who aren't in line for big contracts for a while, could garner a better package than the one the Mets surrendered for Santana.

If the Brewers really wanted to trade Fielder, they'd get far better prospects than the ones the Mets had to surrender for Santana, merely because of his age and his contract status.

My understanding was that Fielder is unhappy with his contract and eligible for arbitration after this year. If he loses his case I could definitely see him looking for better paying opportunities (if he isn't already) as soon as eligible for free agancy. If he doesn't sign a long term contract...he could be a free agent after 2010 at the earliest. Can we hope that Delgado and whatever other stop gaps can get us that far and we sign him? I know... if frogs had wings they wouldn't bump their ass when they hop!

What's this got to do with the Mets?

He has several years of arbitration to go through anyway.

                      I think it's based on a misunderstanding...

I initially read the article about the Brewers re-upping his contract without negotiation and his unhappiness with the result and got to the part where it said he was eligible for arbitration, my brain said "FREE AGENCY"?! And I thought the same thing as the original poster, he's a free agent this winter, so sign him as Delgado's replacement. It was only after re-reading it that I realized he won't hit the market until after 2010 at the earliest.

I think it's just a case of wishful thinking (a 25 year old prince fielder to go with a 27 reyes and 28 yr old wright (and a 117 year old Castillo) How awesome would that be?)

By 2010, Prince Fielder will be Mo Vaughn.

Mo Vaughn was pretty good in his 5th season...along with 39 HR, he even had 11 SB!

You're forgetting the 112-year-old Moises Alou (who, if he can still make plays and drive in runs at that age, deserves to be on the team!) . . .

I mean the Mo Vaughn the Mets had.
